About this deal

However, I often use it as something of a standard to A-B test similar types of pairs with, so it seemed appropriate to give a proper full-length review. Today's headphone audience is much more style-conscious than the audience of 2003, when the HD280 Pro first launched. Seeing that there is a slight dip around 2-8 kHz, instruments occupying this portion of the upper register will bleed together.

There is also a newer variant of this model available, but we haven't currently tested it and don't know how it performs compared to our model. Unfortunately didn't find what I was looking for, so I bought a Sennheiser HD 280 Pro half an year ago from pure curiosity. If you come across another variant of these headphones, please let us know in the discussion section below and we'll update our review.

I wouldn't use these cans to mix on (other than reference checking) but the imaging is very deep and wide. This tends to thicken the vocals and lead instruments and makes the overall sound a bit cluttered and mid-rangy. If I'm gushing, it's because I truly have come to rely on the HD 280 Pros for creating and mixing music in my own home studio.

Probably I have had a faulty unit, because I have listened to the ATH-M20x and they sounded absolutely acceptable. Some may prefer a fit with a bit more clamp to it, but I could easily see somebody becoming aggravated with it – especially for longer sessions. The center image is slightly forward and up in my head, and left/right separation is pleasantly natural and wide, with no hint of claustrophobia. For those seeking superior options in the realm of headphones for mixing, mastering, and music production, be sure to check out my dedicated article on the subject.Unfortunately, they're rather tight on the head and make your ears very warm after a couple of hours of listening. In a world where marketing has replaced quality long ago, I didn't really expect to find such a great product. These are on the bassy side, and the midbass is actually slightly muddy, so you will have to EQ them to get a truly neutral sound, but when you do, man do these things come alive. All of our products are new unless stated and come with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 3-year warranty as standard. They also have a bulky design that will hinder your movements during more strenuous physical activity.

I also have a feeling that like senns other older models that have stayed through the years(hd600/650) that these have changed/improved over the years since they were released. When I first showed up here like most noobs, asking for reccomendations this was one of thesuggested models. I really don't think burn in is real, but these tended to just open up a little after playing for a few nights at medium level. I always take them on the airplane and seem to handle the noise better than any Bose headphones (which are designed to be used on airplanes) and they sound much, much better.

One of these pieces of foam was a little ill-placed in my pair, but I fixed that by quickly popping the pad off and re-seating it. PH: HD650/DT880-600/Q701, MS2i, SRH840, HD449, MS1i, KSC75, HD201, DJ100, PX200II, RE0, E888, MX580, MT, EX300SL. I have had these headphones for years and i recently replaced them with the more expensive HD600's so i can make a pretty good comparison and tell you where you would compromise in case you would decide to not shell out the extra cash.
