I wouldn't use these cans to mix on (other than reference checking) but the imaging is very deep and wide. This tends to thicken the vocals and lead instruments and makes the overall sound a bit cluttered and mid-rangy. Probably I have had a faulty unit, because I have listened to the ATH-M20x and they sounded absolutely acceptable.
