The TBOX Max is a great option for upgrading a recent car head unit (that already has AA or Carplay) to a complete Android head unit, without modifying the vehicle in anyway. I have the carlinkit 3 for the past year and a half and yes it works great on CarPlay Apple, but on long journeys it will drop as the phone will heat up because of the continuous connection, just keep updating the software every 3 months which is really easy.

You can directly plug in a USB adapter to cars and trucks which can be used for wired Carplay or wired Android Auto.
The device itself isn't inherently illegal but you could be breaking a law if you're distracted while driving, and that goes for any reason. I put the phone on the wireless charging pad and it got very hot, so much so, the phone gave me an excessive heat warning and closed apps (happened once thus far but I can't attribute this to the carlinkit so its just an observation) . So far I've only done actual testing with my Android phone (this adaptor supports both AA/ACP via their own protocols unlike previous versions) and here's what I've observed. It uses the native Android Auto and Apple Carplay protocols for the wireless functionality which should translate to less lag compared to other devices.I did add a 128gig MSD card to it with my entire MP3 library on it and now I have my audio collection available, no matter where I am on my favorite android audio app. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. If you've got both paired phones (Apple and Android) in the car, one of the phones may be slightly compromised in that you have to switch off Bluetooth and Wifi on the non active phone.
If off the charge pad my phones power depletes quite quickly with AA (again not a critique of the carlinkit as this happened with my previous adapter and is dependant on a number of factors) .
