About this deal

D (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) Technology with some style, and features an ultra-fast DSP engine, 32-bit AD/DA, 32-bit Processing power and a pristing 96 kHz sampling rate, all of which is unmatched by anything else on the market. If your a player who doesn't require the switching and expression capabilities who wants a compact modeler for desktop use or travel, I'd say go for it. I actually use quite a lot of low-frequency content so didn't really want to shave off the Bass response, while I found setting the Hi-Cut to 8kHz worked a treat for me - and brought back that analog style warmth again.

Like all Boss units I generally find a handful of sounds I think are unique and inspiring on it, but I get frustrated by everything else. This immense processing muscle unlocks far greater sonic detail than ever before possible, making it easy to get the sounds you’re after without endless parameter tweaks and microscopic EQ adjustments. The EFFECTS GRID is pretty straight forward once you figure that out - the difficulty is really remembering all the places you need to navigate, and the sequence thereof - to affect some of the more incidental settings. The ES-5 allows me to change channels on my roadster at the moment, but the goal is to do all that switching via my trusty voodoo labs amp controller (The roadster uses two of those).

As the first of its kind, the Boss GT-1000 allows for Bluetooth editing, in addition to the fully-featured PC/Mac editor that can be used via USB.

If you then configure your patch so that you can switch between these two paths, the change will be completely seamless. We know we're going to be making regular firmware updates here and the old hard-wired cable method really needs to be relegated to the past now! The BOSS amp models have their own thing going on, the modulations are excellent and there's some serious scope to create massive delay soundscapes. Although I much preferred working with the Tone Studio when the GT‑1000 was on the floor, the unit’s onboard display is eminently usable close up and, as a result, I found that, when setting up and editing patches, having the GT‑1000 on the desk with my computer and working between the two gave me the most efficient workflow.

As you might expect from its 32‑bit/96kHz processing and Boss heritage, the GT‑1000 has superb‑sounding effects and a clean and dynamic sonic character. I hope they do a GX-100 core as the full size GX-100 is probably my favourite BOSS modeler but I have no need for a built in exp pedal. My next explorations will rather be more into parallel path experiments - which I'm currently just getting my head around as to how that best works on the CORE. I'm coming from a Helix LT which was great, but I needed something that could sit on a desk and the Stomp felt like a downgrade (Half the DSP) and more suitable as a floor unit.

In the factory looper presets, CTL1 can control all the available functionality (record, play, overdub, stop and clear), although CTL2 will stop playback or recording with a single tap (CTL1 needs two taps) and one tap on CTL3 will clear the loop (CTL1 requires a two‑second hold). I swear Boss just captured these amps at a certain point and then just put active tone stack on top and a gain switch that gives you more chainsaw or less chainsaw. So it became a way to really be able to use especially my Petrucci Neural plugin, even sending midi via USB to change presets. For now his is very much a V1 / Work-in-Progress, and Boss is playing catch-up here in several respects. The Line6 engineers are constantly working to build new models and features and add them to the unit.As a firm favourite for guitarists of all levels, the BOSS GT series of multi effects have been a mainstay in the music industry since the early 90's. The ‘clone’ amplifiers sounded and felt quite accurate, although I found that careful editing of the available parameters could produce what was (to me) a more natural‑feeling and sounding response, especially on the Fender and Vox models — I know the originals extremely well.

That may not sound a lot for a single loop, but I gave up doing continuous overdubs onto a maximum length mono loop at well past 11 minutes, making the loop time restriction seem somewhat puzzling. Boss’s new AIRD technology did bring a sense of realism to the experience of playing through the GT‑1000’s amplifier models. If you need more switches…add 2 analog switches via the ctrl inputs…or use an expression pedal (I use it for delay lvl)…are add a small midi controller…. I added a midi controller for more switches/control as 3 buttons are definitely not enough for what I like to do and added an expression pedal through that controller as well for volume/wah/tuner/etc. More Mic Types—A new RBN121 mic type and three mic blend types have been added to the Speaker Simulator block.Being able to record two tracks with full effects and different cabinets, plus a dry track for reamping through the GT‑1000 gives you options to work with.
