When using it in standard multitrack mode, it saves your recordings in it's own proprietary format, that is "HiFi (MT2) Roland/BOSS original format". BOSS GT-001 – Billed as a desktop GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects, but this tidy unit has a mic input enabling it to approach the BR-800’s functionality. Ever since I've had Windows 10 my PC just doesn't recognise my BR600 when I connect it so the card reader does sound a good option.

With it’s ability to function as a USB interface, the BOSS BR-800 has become a mainstay of my home practice setup, with no need for a guitar amp and effects pedals, I simply have the BR-800 and my PC connected to the same set of desktop monitors. I had the opportunity to watch Geir record us with his and it seems very comprehensive and easy to use. I'm not enjoying the sound quality on the BR800 at all - you really notice if you convert a good quality wav recording to mt2 to put on to the BR800 as a backing track - simply ruins it sounds like compressed mush. If you're more interested in recording to a DAW on your computer, the BR-800 also functions as a direct USB interface.
