About this deal

The Teacher introduces a new partnership DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles, and I’m intrigued by the pair as I’ve come to expect in a crime thriller they both appear to be messed up, but I’m interested to see how there partnership will evolve over the series.

In true Freida fashion, the chapters are short, engaging and enticing… “one more chapter” evoking, that leaves you still awake at 3am, wanting more. Drawing on the classical triumvirate of grammar (knowledge), dialectic (questioning and debate) and rhetoric (expression), Robinson offers a model of education he wishes to see for his daughter and that seeks to draw on the past to anticipate an uncertain future.Honestly, it's truly such a clever novel and Katerina Diamond is a wicked good storyteller, and I love her flair for the dramatic and gruesome. We're supposed to believe that Addie left a recorded statement with a police officer detailing how she assaulted her math teacher then buried her alive, yet faced ZERO consequences? After the murder Hudson completely stopped talking to her, but he still helps her clean her locker because he is such a nice guy. It is cleverly written and with its great characters, subplots and gruesome murder scenes it is a book that you won’t want to put down (unless you don’t like reading about well described murder scenes).

I was truly too stunned to speak given everything else I had known throughout the entirety of the story. THE TEACHER is a foreboding psychological thriller with cleverly executed twists and turns contrived to keep readers and characters off-kilter and reeling from beginning to end. He has worked with organisations such as Waterstones, BookTrust and Literature Wales, as well as with many leading and independent children’s books publishers to produce resources for teachers to use in the classroom. The chapters jump around quite a bit to tell the story from different perspectives, and different time-lines, but it all seemed to come together. After being at the center of a school-wide scandal that resulted in a teacher being forced to resign, she is now a social pariah. One thread is a series of brutal murders, first a headmaster of a private school in Exeter by a mysterious figure. Hot Nate and Addie talk again after a Reflections meeting, and he lets her know that he got her out of trouble with his mean wife. I also liked Parker and Abbey and was hooked with their story, past and present and cared for them more than I did for the detective duo!

The story went in a direction that I didn’t expect and I can’t say it was something that I had any interest in.

As trust built between them and you learn more about them and their pasts so my liking for the pair grew. An overall tone of impending doom permeates the pages as characters and readers struggle with deciding who can be trusted and who's hiding behind a mask of civility waiting for their chance at the ultimate revenge. Most of the plot was rather predictable so it's not the kind of thriller that you'll “never see coming”. In its defence The Teacher begs the question of what happens when justice can’t be served in the traditional manner we all rely on. Far more effective are practices such as interleaving, spaced learning and retrieval practice, which are expertly outlined in this easily accessible book.
