Sometimes you have to keep going back to the same points, the same fights, the same apologies, and keep trying until you know how to progress away from them differently. For most of the book, Levi “ who is very nearly in [his] midthirties” is brooding, angsty, anxious and insecure. When Hortense shuts her shadow out of her life she thinks she is safe – but she reckons without a team of bandits. Quirky and sweet, she is a good friend, a loving daughter and someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand.

Rich in biblical explorations of lament and praise, forgiveness and hope, service and surrender, Safe All Along asks, What practical choices can we make to experience the peace Jesus promised amid disappointment and uncertainty? the looooooong mental interludes and descriptions of things that were either not additive to the book, or worse, had already happened and the characters were just repetitively ruminating. Being back in her hometown just shows Georgie how much everyone's unflattering impressions of her have stuck, and how much she lived up to them. And, to be blunter, the set-up still didn’t blow me away, even after I’d finished reading Georgie and fallen deeply, madly in love with all the characters and their lives and their quirks.

It really is a deliciously innocent lgbtqia contemporary, more suitable for the younger end of the YA demographic.The look at her extended family reminds one of a Mrs Brown's Boys collective one would actually wish to be in. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This book deserves a lot more because (a) la Keyes has not spread her thoughts indiscriminately through celebrity, and therefore lost sincerity, full disclosure (that bladder again), the common touch and intelligence through that, and (b) she's perfectly likeable whatever you think of her mugshot. And who better to help her than the grumpy older brother of the very same high school crush whose name is all over this friend fic in puffy sparkle pen? Both of these main characters go through dramatic transformations during the course of the storyline.
