There are four basic Nen techniques: Ten ( 纏) maintains the aura in the body, strengthening it for defense; Zetsu ( 絕) shuts the aura flow off, useful for concealing one's presence and relieving fatigue; Ren ( 練) enables a user to produce more Nen; and Hatsu ( 發) is a person's specific use of Nen. This one is about a fictional fantasy world where hunter is one of the most prestigious and well-paid jobs, so everybody wants to be one but very few people are actually qualified, since you have to go through a series of very tough and rigorous tests to get certified.

We saw this effect used in this chapter and you'll definitely see more of this throughout the manga. Better for fans of My Hero Academia where most of the series is the characters growing into their roles.

Kurapika acts as though Magical Beasts are common knowledge too, but I wonder if that's because it was only common knowledge among the Kurta clan--which may have also come from the Outside World. The chimera Ants villains (and I beg to differ) comes close, but we spend more time with the PT so we get to know them more. With Biscuit's help, Gon and Killua train their Nen and learn to shape their abilities to their traits. I've probably spent more time with Gon and Killua than I have with any other manga/anime characters. Despite many of them dying like scrubs, everyone who took the Hunter Exam was an extremely competent person--and only 8 passed.

A fun and promising start in to a deep and dark serie , The Hunter exam arc lasts for 5 volumes - 38 chapters, and after that when Gon and Killua brave the corrupt world; that's when it becomes incredible.

The series is directed by Hiroshi Kōjina, produced by Madhouse, scripted by Atsushi Maekawa, and character designs were created by Takahiro Yoshimatsu. This series is for a reader who wants to see the character develop, not something that is already established, like One-Punch Man.
