About this deal

After the end of his series, Marc is presumed dead and disappears from the Marvel Universe for three years. We get a lot of fun adventures and I love Moon Knight as a character but to elevate these stories, Doug needed to come up with better villains. I think Doug wanted to ground Moon Knight in reality and tell more relatable stories so Moon Knight fights mercenaries and common terrorists but in the four colour world of comics - it makes a lot of the stories a bit bland.

In 1986, he began working for Eclipse Comics, writing Airboy with artist Tim Truman. Continuing to write for both Marvel and (mainly) Eclipse on these titles, as well as launching Strike! with artist Tom Lyle in August 1987 and Valkyrie with artist Paul Gulacy in October 1987, he began work on Carl Potts' Alien Legion series for Marvel's Epic Comics imprint, under editor Archie Goodwin. He also produced a three-issue adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit for Eclipse with artist David Wenzel between 1989 and 1990, and began writing Marc Spector: Moon Knight in June 1989. While writing multiple Punisher and Batman comics (and October 1994's Punisher/Batman crossover), he also found time to launch Team 7 for Jim Lee's WildStorm/Image and Prophet for Rob Liefeld's Extreme Studios. He also wrote many issues of Catwoman and Green Arrow , regularly having about seven titles out each and every month between the years 1993 and 1998.

Where to start reading Moon Knight?

Moon Knight by Doug Moench – You can start from the beginning with Doug Moench’s run from the 70s, still one of the most emblematic runs for the character, available in omnibus or in Epic Collection.

A.X.E.: Judgment Day (2022): See Guide to Marvel Universe Events – A.X.E.: Judgment Day. Moon Knight appears only very briefly in A.X.E.: Judgment Day (2022) #5. Just like his Nightwing and Batman runs, Dixon let's Marc have fun being a superhero. Whooping ass, taking names, a little sexist with Marlene because...of course. Don't have to research much to see where Dixon is now days and who he writes with. But I'll save the political stuff for another day. The writing is solid enough to carry these stories even if they hold little to no weight. We know what will happen every issue, Moon Knight will survive, no big twist or turns. Anyway, all this to say that this really wasn’t a particularly good book (in my opinion much of the art is horrible) and I’m glad I didn’t buy the print edition (I got discounts on the ebook, too.) He was DC's most prolific Batman-writer in the mid-1990s (rivalled perhaps in history by Bill Finger and Dennis O'Neil) - in addition to writing Detective Comics he pioneered the individual series for Robin , Nightwing (which he wrote for 70 issues, and returned to briefly with 2005's #101) and Batgirl , as well as creating the team and book Birds of Prey . Before the Omnibus edition, you could also find most of this Moon Knight’s period collected in Epic Collection:Apparently this is the book/character that Sienkiewicz cut his teeth on. His storytelling is excellent. The art is a far cry from his later work and every few issues he has a different inker, each giving a slightly different feel to his work. Sometimes a little more "sketchy", while others offer a cleaner look. By the end of this omnibus though, you can see he starts to experiment with different panel shapes and layouts. And if anyone questions his drawing ability, take a look at the different plates he did for a Moon Knight Portfolio that are pencils only. Phenomenal! Collects Moon Knight (1985) #1-6, Marvel Team-Up (1972) #144, Marvel Fanfare (1982) #30, Marc Spector: Moon Knight #1-7 And Material from Solo Avengers #3, Marvel Fanfare (1982) #38-39 And Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #1. Collects Moon Knight (2006) 1-30, Moon Knight Annual (2007) 1, Moon Knight: Silent Knight (2008) 1, Vengeance of the Moon Knight (2009) 1-10, Shadowland: Moon Knight (2010) 1-3 Finally, Marc Spector was ready to be the star of his first ongoing series, with Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz as its main creative team. Published between August 1948 and April 1938, the title will last 38 issues before being rebooted as Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu. It will last 6-issues. Marc Spector: Moon Knight concluded with the second Death of Moon Knight. His co-creator Doug Moench was behind Marc Spector’s return from the dead, titled The Resurrection War, published at the beginning of 1998, and not collected at this time.
