About this deal
You can really believe that these are all different people giving an account of their experiences, also making it easy to split into sections to listen to during commutes etc. (I totally didn't do that, I spent all of Sunday afternoon cleaning out kitchen cupboards just so I could keep listening to it).
I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen so far. They’re doing something very original and great. It did chill my blood bit when I first heard the premise, which made me worry that someone might be doing my idea much better.

The thing is, you would think that the complete breakdown of societal rules and civility would take longer than a couple of days, but that photo is of day 2. For all they knew, their rescuers would be showing up that day and the park would reopen in the morning. That's how fast they lost their shit. Anyway I can’t get it out of my head and I was hoping some others that loved the book as much as I did (or hated it give me all perspectives!) can discuss some of our theories, ideas, and questions! It was pretty good. Reporter Adam Jakes said it best after concluding his interviews with surviving workers of FantasticLand: There was plenty of food and water to last the five weeks they were stranded there. However, they were too busy killing each other.
AIPT: How did you decide on FantasticLand‘s format (and are you a fan of World War Z by Max Brooks)? I listened to this audio book during the 2017 Texas Hurricane, Harvey, so to say it felt accurate and extra haunting is an understatement. Be forewarned, though, that this is a really dark story, and part of the realism comes from the various interviewees describing things in very graphic detail. While I've certainly read and watched more graphic violence than is portrayed in this story, the fact that this feels so real will leave you feeling more unsettled than you expect. I learned the hard way that this was not good bedtime reading material.Meta: As noted above the book has been described as Lord of the Flies tranplanted to Walt Disney World Disney World]]. The format has been compared to World War Z.
