About this deal

The Philips Hue Signe gradient floor lamp is another example of Hue’s great design and smart home savvy, brought to life in a way that can light up any room, either as a standalone device or as part of a chorus of Hue accessories. As the Signe Floor Lamp has three individually controllable zones, each scene automatically applies to them. To be fair, the app does a good job of choosing the right colours and blending them together. This is something that not only annoys me about the Gradient Signe, but also about many other products. Although the Play Lightbar and the HDMI Sync Box now have a power supply unit with three connectors, it is simply not powerful enough. In my opinion, a solution with USB-C would be really modern and flexible.

Being in the UK, I was sent the UK and EU version of the lamp (a US version is also available), which meant I had a UK and EU plug to switch between. The lamp arrived with the EU plug attached, but switching this to the UK plug was simply a matter of sliding the EU plug upwards to release, and replacing with the UK version. For me personally, I think a pair of Gradient Signe's positioned behind my sofa, linked up to a Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, would be where they'd fit in best physically, as they'd be ideal as powerful mood lighters for movies, TV shows and games. When I first tried to connect the Signe to Alexa, my device wasn't able to detect the lamp. I was sitting next to the light with my phone in Bluetooth range. Maybe it was its proportions, or the fact that I don't have free corners in rooms with neutral white or off-white walls, or that it didn't really go with a lot of my furniture, but whatever it was I struggled to make room for it – and certainly so in a way that meant there wasn't a wire trailing too far across the carpet. Viewing the various scenes in the Hue Scene Gallery on the app, I settled on either Starlight or Blood Moon. These are a beautiful mix of soft blues, purples and pinks. I was able to brighten or dim the lights whenever I wanted, but I preferred to have the Gradient Signe set to a dim level – because the brightest setting really is very bright. Before I get to the colour gradients, I would like to briefly go over the technical data. The Signe has an overall height of 146 centimetres, 20 centimetres of which are accounted for by the stand. This makes the Gradient Signe 3 centimetres smaller than the old Signe. No really relevant difference, which also applies to the weight: the new model is about 100 grams lighter.

During my time with the Philips Hue Gradient Signe table lamp, I've looked forward to entering my bedroom of an evening to see the light not only already switched on (without me having to do anything), but also the gentle colors filling my side of the room. The brightness, colors and the on/off schedule is all controlled via the Hue app (more on this shortly). On Hueblog.com we share the fascination around Smart Lighting. The focus is on Philips Hue, which has become the absolute market leader in this segment in the past years. John Lewis plc, registered office: 171 Victoria Street, London SW1E 5NN. With coloured settings, the Hue Gradient Signe naturally does not shine quite as brightly as with white tones, with which, by the way, no gradients can be created. At the standard setting of 2,700 Kelvin, Philips Hue indicates 1,800 lumens, at 4,000 Kelvin it is 2,550 lumens and thus a little bit more than its predecessor. But I am sure that the new Signe will shine colourfully in most cases. Unfortunately, this colour gradient is not particularly impressive in the table lamp and there is a reason for this: the individual segments of the small Gradient Signe are also around 12.5 centimetres long. But while the Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip is divided into 16 segments and the large Gradient Signe into 10 segments, the floor lamp has only four segments. A real colour gradient cannot be created. Overall, then, I feel the Philips Hue Gradient Signe Floor Lamp offers a lot to potential buyers, and it is one of the most versatile smart lighting products that I've tested. I much preferred my Go to Sleep routine, which would turn on at 22:00. I loved walking across my landing to see a gentle glow of colored lightcoming from the bedroom. The next thing I was blown away by was the size; the floor lamp is really quite tall for a premium strip of LED, 57.4 inches. Otherwise, it has a tiny footprint of less than 4.5- inches, which guarantees it will fit in all but the tiniest of spaces. Indeed, it has a vastly smaller footprint than a conventional floor lamp, especially one with a tripod.
