Romanno Bridge carries the A701 over the Lyne Water at the southern end of the small village of Romannobridge, which obviously takes its name from the bridge. The older crossing is a stone arch built from a reddish stone, and was built in 1774. There is a single large span across the river, with two smaller flood arches on the north bank. The bridge is neatly detailed, with a drip mould over the arch ring, and then a peaked cornice line above below the parapet. The roadway is slightly humped and narrower over the main arch, with flared abutments allowing wider approaches. The parapets are topped with flat coping stones, and terminate simply after extended wing walls. The bridge has been bypassed, but retained as a footpath between houses in the village, with bollards at the A701 end.signed] R D Kerr CaptRE [Captain, Royal Engineers] 24th July 1856 -- James Carpenter C, Asst [Civilian Assistant] 24th July 1856
