About this deal

But it wasn't until a year later when Sophie posted the parody Smell Of You - swapping Ed Sheeran's lyrics about meeting a girl for the mundane life of Tom Hardy-loving, nit-phobic, Dairylea-covered mums - that she started to get attention online. Fast forward 2 years and it is her best fiends hen do in Ibiza. Still in a downward spiral, her friends try their best to fear her up for the mother of all hen dos. We've moved around over the years as Steve is a sports physio, he works for Liverpool FC now, I made him a Northerner and brought him into the Scouse fold." Exercise as well, I was like, yeah, I'm gonna do pregnancy safe hiit workouts all the time…I've done about two spin classes and threw up through both. I think probably what I want people to know is that although my characters are mothers, it’s not necessarily about the day-to-day ins and outs of parenting. Mums are mums, and that’s amazing, but we are also people too and we have lives and our own personalities and we have our own identities. And this is a wee bit of a voyage for these women, who are discovering their identities again and their freedom, away from the kids. There’s a little bit of debauchery along the way.

She says: "There is an assumption that I have done something for three minutes on my phone. But I have worked hard writing a script. I appreciate I am not saving lives - but it is hard work." Cara is not having an easy life. Recently divorced from the creepy Dom, she’s left to fend for herself and her two young kids. Dragged to her friend Jen’s hen do, things get crazy fast. Four friends, three nights in Hedonistic Ibiza ending with an unplanned trip to Las Vegas, what could possibly go wrong? Even now, every time I go to the toilet, I'm expecting to see something, it's just ingrained within me. I had a miscarriage before I had my daughter and her pregnancy was the same as well, I couldn't ease into it. If you’ve had that type of experience, it just it's there, it's ingrained within you. But I feel more reassured now. I'm past the 20 week hurdle. How has this pregnancy been so far?But it wasn't until a year later when Sophie posted the parody 'Smell Of You' - swapping Sheeran's lyrics about meeting a girl for the mundane life of Tom Hardy-loving, nit-phobic, Dairylea-covered mums - that she started to get noticed. Sophie’s first fiction title has a lot going on- cheating husbands, running from a cult, drug dealers, a murder… but somehow Sophie brings it all together with her characteristic witty and zany sense of humour. Prepare for puns galore! This is a story about friendship and doing whatever it takes to get a friend out of a dark time in their lives. I immediately detested Dom (the weasel) and Cara’s mother is a piece of work too (don’t get me started about Cara’s younger stepsister CA chaotic story that pulls at all the emotions, Sophie’s Mother Hens is the Mums on Tour version of the Inbetweeners. I’m not expecting anyone to come away feeling like they’ve learnt anything from my book, that’s not what it’s about. I would like people to come away feeling maybe 10% better about their own parenting abilities and choices. Hopefully they can read it and think ‘yeah, that happened to me too’ or ‘yeah, I felt really alone and isolated after I had a baby’.

They fly into Ibiza and soon arrive at Unicorn Utopia (yup), their sacred spiritual sanctuary in the middle of nowhere. What, no alcohol, someone is surely having a laugh? Er, this isn’t what they bargained for and they to not intend to spend their short time on the island tramping about in nature and contemplating their navels, so they decamp to a very upmarket establishment, where Cara is confronted by the last people on earth she would expect to meet. Her sister and mother. Given they all have a rather delicate history of late, this may not going to turn out well. In her book, Sophie asks: "When it comes to adult life, and parenthood, you will never be ready. So what happens when you hit your mid-thirties and still feel like an out-of-depth teen trapped in the slightly sagging skin suit of a tired and tested mother of two?" Read More Related Articles I want people to relate to the ups and the downs of the parenthood journey, but the main thing is that they have a laugh. There might be a bit of a tear jerker in there but I’m hoping the majority of tears will come from laughter!” I really did enjoy reading Mother Hens and felt that I could not put it down, I needed to know what happens! When reading, you will notice a few dramas that you can see coming and will rightly assume what will happen. However the total spanner in the works comes at Chapter 32!For more summer reading inspiration, take a look at our review of ‘ Champagne at Seven!‘ HOW TO ENTER THE MOTHER HENS BOOK GIVEAWAY There’s quite a big age gap from seven to a baby, and you forget that sometimes babies just get a bit snuffly — that’s quite normal. But I’m up in the night with a thermometer in his ear, putting a finger under his nose, making sure he’s still breathing.

I make myself laugh because I've always said to myself, if I ever have another baby, I'm going to be so sensible. I'm going to eat all of my leafy greens. I'm going to be super healthy and on top of my game because I know that's going to help me after the baby's born. No, I've lived a life of beige food. Winner of the 2020 Funny Women Award for Best Comedy Series, her online videos reach a global audience. Tired and Tested: The Wild Ride Into Parenthood is Sophie’s first book and is published by Harper Collins. Lazy days, crazy nights and child-free hangovers sound like hedonistic heaven – but it turns out you can get into a hell of a lot of trouble on the party island where rules are meant to be broken.

You’re also currently writing a second book – what can you tell us about that?

Once in Ibiza it is clear nothing is going to plan and obviously her sister is there celebrating her hen do too. Yeah, so this is completely different, it’s fictional and honestly, the plot keeps changing as I write it! It's essentially about a group of mums who are friends. It’s not necessarily about parenting as such, it's actually about removing mums from their day to day life and putting them into a situation where they wouldn't normally be. It's about finding their identities or I suppose rediscovering the identities that they had before kids. They end up in Ibiza on a hen party, some things go a little bit wrong, it might be a little bit murdery in places as well. So it's very removed from what I've done before. I’ve got a deadline at the end of the month for the first draft so I’m constantly typing away at the moment and I’ve got until the end of August to do all the editing, and then baby is due in the middle of September, so I’ve probably got about 10 days maternity leave. What's the most important lesson you've learned as a parent?
