Flashman appears to know him well and claims to have shared his lovers, Lillie Langtry and Daisy Brooke. He also suspects Elspeth of having "been at grips in a potting-shed at Windsor in '59" with him. He had a special penchant for royal ladies, and noted that his favourite amours (apart from his wife) were Lakshmibai, Ci Xi and Lola Montez: "a Queen, an Empress, and the foremost courtesan of her time: I dare say I'm just a snob." He also noted that, while civilized women were more than ordinarily partial to him, his most ardent admirers were among the savage of the species: "Elspeth, of course, is Scottish." And for all his raking, it was always Elspeth to whom he returned and who remained ultimately top of the list. A busy man of tremendous energy, Fraser claimed to have written 20 or 30 film scripts. Most of them were never made, but even so, he said, the money was very good. The scripts that did reach the screen were The Three Musketeers (1974), The Four Musketeers (1975), Royal Flash (1975), The Prince and the Pauper (1977), the James Bond film Octopussy (1983), Red Sonia (1985), Casanova (1987) and The Return of the Musketeers (1989). Flashman and the Tiger is a 1999 book by George MacDonald Fraser. It is the eleventh of the Flashman books. I've been in need of cheering up the last few weeks—a combination of personal and national strife—and when you need cheering up, there's no man for the job like Flashy.Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 2010-08-24 18:58:43 Boxid IA126412 Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II City New York Donor Pyotr Andreyevich Shuvalov - Russian statesman. He is the source of most of Blowitz's information about the treaty, through Caprice, who seduces him. Raises dastardliness to the level of an art... One of the most amusing and sardonic novels I have ever read!"-- Omaha World Fraser, George MacDonald (1994b). Flashman and the Dragon. London: HarperCollins. ISBN 978-0-00-617340-3. As always, Fraser's research is meticulous, and his writing far more accomplished than some in the literary canon would be comfortable admitting. Flashman's Lady contains some truly outstanding descriptive prose and scene construction, as Fraser handles massive pirate battles, orgiastic Madagascaran feasts, and other set-pieces with aplomb, keeping all plates spinning at once: lush setting, frenetic action, dozens of characters, and our hero's singular perspective. The Subtleties of Baccarat" has Flashman at the home of Sir Arthur Wilson with the Prince of Wales, just when the royal baccarat scandal is unfolding. Unlike in most Flashman stories, he is mainly an observer of the event, simply giving bad advice when asked to. However, in a twist, someone he has known for years unexpectedly turns out to be the most important player in the story. Flashman is a character in Snooks North and South and Snooks The Presidents' Man by Peter Brian. The protagonist of these books is Snooks, who is another character from Tom Brown's School Days. In Brian's books, Snooks participates in the American Civil War under disreputable circumstances and conceals his identity by using Harry Flashman's name. So the events that would be attributed to Flashman actually occurred to Snooks.Sara (Aunt Sara), sister-in-law of Count Pencherjevsky ( Flashman at the Charge). Shares violent love-making with Flashman in a Russian steam-bath. Believed to be victim of a subsequent serf rising. Of course it has the usual George Macdonald Fraser problem of caring nothing for political correctness, and with Flashy travelling to both Singapore and Madagascar there is quite the spectrum of racist language. However, it is to me entirely justified by the historical context and Flashman's character, and never feels as if it is used with more venom or flippancy than necessary.
