Hey folks,So, I just bought a 2000 XLT, and was going to get another key for it.$103 at one dealership and $120 at another.No. That"s retarded.I got a normal key made that will just open the door, and will turn in the ignition. If it weren"t for that freaking anti-theft crap, I could spend 3 dollars for a working key. These guys want me to spend 103?! Things get lost. Keys especially.Has anyone disabled whatever silly crap requires a chip in the key to start the truck? So far as I"m concerned, that"s just one more thing to go wrong anyway. There has to be a way to do it. Any of y"all done it?I"m not trying to steal my own truck. I promise!

You can probably buy a $3000 Ford dealer machine that will do it. If you have 2 original keys then buy more keys and have them cut wherever. Then program the new keys yourself.
If you have 2 keys you can just buy another one on ebay for 10 bucks and have it cut anywhere. I"m guessing you only have 1 key though
i got 2500$ from a 93.. Also i was wondering if you could get a Lincoln PATS key (They Look The Same) and have it programed to my Ranger
Just one key. I"m looking for a way to have multiple keys for less than the 120bucks my local dealer wants to get me another one. It"s false security and just one more thing to go wrong. Complete crap, this is. So far, the cheapest but least trustworthy system I"ve been able to find on teh interwebs is to take the PATS capsule out of the one working key I have and glue it to the cylinder lock. Then any hardware store key will work because PATS sees the rfID chip. But what if this tiny chip comes unglued somehow? It"s less likely than me losing my keys (happens all the time) but seriously...It"s like people have figured out how to make every otherwise inexpensive thing as expensive as hell.
Some Ace hardware stores program the keys for 75 bucks...Also some times you can ziptie a programed key to the ign. switch. Some people do this when installing remote start
I would get the two keys programmed by the dealer then buy more keys off of ebay. You keep the 2 main keys at home and carry the spare keys. When you lose the spare keys just buy more keys and program them with the main keys sitting at home. If you are losing keys like crazy maybe get a nipple ring then attach a long chain and key to it.
You can try and take the programmed key and tape in the column next to the ignition switch. If not you might have to take the sensor off and put the key next it somewhere inside the column.
No, that"s just beating the system the way it was intended to be beaten. This still leaves the entirely real possibility that the transponder or the rfID chip could become damaged, leaving you completely stuck. People still steal these vehicles, so there IS a way around it.There has to be a way to permanently and completely disable this system, short of spending thousands of dollars or just fooling it into working like it was intended. I"m not trying to pick the lock... I"m removing the door.
As far as I know you can only disable it with dealer equipment. I doubt they will do it for you though. Bob is the guy that knows these systems well. Maybe he will chime in.
If the paperwork is in my name, I don"t know why they wouldn"t.But, like any other dealer-related activity, I"m sure they"ll charge me more than it"s worth.

I"m sure it is.I"d like to get rid of it more because I don"t trust it than anything else, to tell you the truth.

just get over it and buy the key from the dealership..........save alot of trouble going through all of this
im curious about having to keys and buying one on ebay? i read in my f150 manual (im guessin the system works the same in both vehicles) that if you have 2 keys you can program other keys on your own or something like that. can anyone fill in the blanks?
if you have 2 keys and they work on the vehicle you can program 2 additional keys into the system by a sequence of key turns (cant remember how to do it anymore though), but it is possible.
