About this deal

The exhausted Henry is taken home after Waldman promises to destroy the monster, but instead Waldman is killed by the escaping monster” (Overview). This gothic romance novel tells the story of a philosopher who discovered how to create life, without the full knowledge that his actions could cause grave consequences. Frankenstein, is about a young man, Victor Frankenstein, who is obsessed with science and trying to find the secret to life. The university finished that year's school term, and left Ingolstadt in May 1800, bringing to a quiet end the school that had, at its peak, been one of the most influential and powerful institutes of higher learning in Europe. The character of Victor Frankenstein was portrayed in both the novel and the film as a veriphobe, or one who is afraid of the truth, in this case, the truth of his actions.

Henry and Elizabeth’s wedding preparations are disrupted when Victor arrives with the announcement that Waldman’s body has been found at the watchtower— who found it? Lyz, we don’t have to “close our eyes and imagine this film with Lugosi” – may I draw your attention to “Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man” (1943), in which Lugosi actually played the Monster? They also remove a man hanging from a gibbet, but his broken neck requires that a new brain be found. The Illuminati's members pledged obedience to their superiors, and were divided into three main classes, each with several degrees. Since they’ve been busy all day quaffing the Baron’s free beer and slapping their knees, how could they possibly know! From beginning to end Frankenstein’s Monster is shown as a wicked creature from the people; however, he possesses many human characteristics. It is loosely based on the state of Ingolstadt in Bavaria, Germany, which was a central location in the original 1818 Frankenstein novel by Mary Shelley.

The Lutheran movement took an early hold in Ingolstadt, but was quickly put to flight by one of the chief figures of the Counter-Reformation: Johann Eck, who made the university a bastion for the traditional Catholic faith in southern Germany. Fritz reluctantly obeys, but upon examining the body, Frankenstein rejects it in disgust, commenting that they will have to get a brain from somewhere else. Still—the fact that Henry Frankenstein reacts to his engagement by disappearing for four months, and upon the very eve of his own wedding chooses to spend his time dabbling in unnatural reproduction, is suggestive, to say the least.

At one point, Whale even dares, not just to poke fun at his own sleight-of-hand, but to draw attention to it, by having Frankenstein seat Dr Waldman, Elizabeth and Victor Moritz in a row of chairs before the surgical table, prior to animating his creation. Young Frankenstein’s setting commences in New York where a neurosurgeon by the name of Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder), lives. the scene culminates with the clumsy, lumbering Creature somehow managing to sneak soundlessly into Elizabeth’s room, and stalk her unnoticed while she restlessly paces the floor. It is difficult to deal with this aspect of the film without reference to the novel from which its ideas were taken.
