About this deal

Boarding Actions games use different rules for line of sight, cover, and visibility. Many of these will be familiar to Kill Team players who have played games in the Gallowdark.

In addition to the actions available in the Core Rules, there are three new actions specific to Boarding Action battles. All of them are started at the end of the Move Units step of your Movement phase, which means you can’t do them with Reinforcements. This article is about the Campaign event. For other uses of Arks of Omen, see Arks of Omen (disambiguation). The penalty for indirect fire remains, but Astra Militarum’s exemption from it does not. Now that the Codex has had some time to prove itself, I think we can firmly say “good” on that front, especially with Armour of Contempt going away. Key Faction Nerfs The ongoing narrative of Warhammer 40,000, with galaxy-shaking implications for the Imperium as the Lion and his sons battle to foil Vashtorr's designs Primaris Kevin: As cool as the concepts and mission are, Arks of Omen really doesn’t appeal to me that much. I already have plenty of Sector Mechanicus and Zone Mortalis terrain for Necromunda, and I have no interest in Kill Team. That means that I would be buying Arks of Omen and the boarding terrain board exclusively for highly limited 500 point battles, and to be honest I don’t see a lot of interest in my local community for learning another set of rules when it’s much easier to just drop down 1000 points and use the Open War system for a casual game of 40k. This seems like something that would have been better off being sold as a boxed game, with cardboard terrain pieces that already contained the layout with 3-D door elements similar to how GW did the original Necromunda boxed set or the Rogue Trader Kill Team box.Your stratagems are a nice mix of returning and new effects. Monstrous Vigour lets you hand out transhuman to Aberrants or Abominants, while Shadow Dwellers lets a unit in cover gain an additional +1 to their save. You’ll also have access to Insidious Infiltration , which lets you deep strike a unit of Genestealers by putting them in the vents of a ship, while Vicious to the End allows a unit to fight on death, which is very nice for if you get caught out of position with some of your melee threats. Arks of Omen: Farsight is the fourth book in the Arks of Omen campaign event series for the 9th Edition of Warhammer 40,000. [1] Description [1] With the ruthless advance of Haarken Worldclaimer’s armada through the Nachmund Gauntlet – one of the very few safe passages through the Cicatrix Maledictum – the forces of Chaos are nearing their goal. Only a few faltering obstacles stand between Abaddon the Despoiler and supremacy over the entire Imperium Nihilus.

Warhammer 40,000 has a new tabletop game type, which launched in January, based around boarding parties that can be played with Citadel miniatures. Boarding Actions is a 500-point game mode, accompanied with a book full of lore to explain why your miniatures are duking it out. A new, more compact way to make your miniatures fight is always interesting, but Arks of Omen also adds intriguing lore spread across four books, only one of which has been released so far. The first book, Arks of Omen: Abaddon, sets the stage, and it looks like the 40K universe is about to get even spicier. This truncated list really helps keep Boarding Actions games light when it comes to mental load and also helps prevent some of the more degenerate mechanics and combos that might otherwise destabilize the game from rearing their heads here. Arks of Omen is an in-universe event for the 9th Edition of Warhammer 40,000. [1] Games Workshop Description Aside from the Lore no doubt setting up some new stalemate, I am keen to see what Crusade content that may come along to expand upon this format.Players start each battle with 1 CP, and gain 1 CP at the start of each of their Command phases. CP can only be used on three Stratagems: Command Re-roll , Counter-Offensive , and Insane Bravery . These Stratagems are provided in the book but have rules that are identical to the Core Rulebook. No other Stratagems can be used. Arks of Omen: Farsight also contains rules from multiplayer games for three or four players, including free-for-all battles and two-on-two team games, with 12 new missions to fight over. Arks of Omen: Abaddon has all the core rules you’ll need to experience this glut of expanded content. Through various winding story segments, we follow Abaddon and Vashtorr’s hunt for the key fragments, and the assorted forces opposing them – including not only Imperials but xenos races too, most notably the Tau Empire‘s Commander Farsight. On to the weapons. We have Vashtorr’s Claw, which is just a heavy flamer with extra AP and no melee profile. That’s fine though, he can punch with Vashtorr’s Hammer , which is Sx2 AP -2 D3. That’s right, AP -2. It’s got an ability to do 4 mortals instead, on a wound roll of 5+ and only against vehicles, but that’s both a corner case and very whiffable. Ok, fine, so the manifestation of the machine god’s will is a fancy thunder hammer. Not even a heavy thunder hammer. That’s fine, he exists for his abilities, surely. The steps for playing an Arks of Omen game are going to look very familiar to anyone who’s been keeping up with competitive play in 9th Edition. Most of the refinements that have been built up over the last few years remain, including the requirement for every Transport to have models within it, and the option to remove a terrain piece if you can’t fit your Fortification. There are, however, two changes in this section, one very impactful, and one that’s mostly just a welcome bit of housekeeping.

Access Junction Primus is a straightforward objective securing mission that provides a maximum of 15 points per turn for controlling objectives and up to 45 points at the end of the battle depending on how much of the enemy army was destroyed. Unlike every other mission this one allows you to score points in the first turn, and does not have an exception for the player who goes second. It’s also got a long firing line in the middle of the board that makes it a little more of a head-to-head brawl than the other missions. You’ll also get a regular bulletin of the latest news and happenings from Warhammer Community, so really, everyone’s a winner. The book does not contain any explicit Crusade content, but does have a paragraph stating that the rules and missions can be used with Crusade forces (and their Battle Honours, Battle Scars, and upgrades) so long as everyone understands that not all Agendas will actually work with the game setting. The book encourages players to discuss things ahead of time and mutually agree on how to handle things. Given that the Crusade system uses Power Level and Boarding Acton battles use points and a lot of restrictions it’s likely that players will be negotiating quite a bit. This is all a real shame because I honestly believe in this format, which has snappier play and refines actions into something that fixes their major issues. If Games Workshop made a version of this that used a 44×30″ board and came with non-Gallowdark terrain and allowed say, a single vehicle or something similar, I think they’d be able to create an exceptional introductory version of the game in a way that has eluded them before now. I like Boarding Actions, enough that I’m going to play more, but I’m also immediately thinking about how to make it work with Zone Mortalis terrain. I’m also concerned with how long it’ll get support, since this seems exactly like the kind of thing we get right before a new edition to pad out a release schedule.
