About this deal

Does anyone have experience with both pacelas and ribmos? Is the Ribmo harsher. It surely isn't much heavier than same size panaracer. I had used Schwalbe matahon pluses and they are really terrible in terms of ride quality. Very fast tire, but we give it a slight downgrade for the thin sidewalls (rated as a touring bike tire). Puncture Force Sharp Needle: Pre-2021, this score was known as 'Puncture Resistance'. On some tires with weakly bonded casing wires, the sharp needle can split the casing wires resulting in a lower score. This is a test of the folding version of the Pasela PT (ProTite) in the 38-622 (700x38c) size which happens to be the most "high-end" version of this tire. The PT or ProTite part of the name indicates an extra layer of Panaracer ProTite anti-puncture material has been applied under the tread section of the tire. The casing is made of "400D Light Extra Cord" fabric that gives this tire the suppleness and responsiveness it's known for.

The Continental Grand Prix Urban is a new addition to the Continental "Grand Prix" range of bicycle tires. Having "Grand Prix" in the name is promising by itself as Continental usually reserves this name for their best-performing road bike tires. Even though the Grand Prix Urban comes very close to being a road bike tire on paper, we've classified this tire as a "Touring/E-Bike" tire and will compare it to other tires in the same class. There has been a thread some time ago about 28mm Paselas - you may be well advised to have a look at that. I won't use 28mm Paselas ever again, but I have 23mm and 25mm Paselas on my bikes at the moment and I'm very happy with them - BUT - they're "Made in Japan". - and pressure quoted on the 28mm Paselas was (and as far as I know still is) "Keep inflated - 105psi", which is a lot different from 50-75. I know that 32mm tyres may very well have a recommended pressure less than equivalent 28mm tyres, but I've never seen Paselas express pressures in that way. The bike in question is to be used for commuting (almost always on tarmac and occasionally on thames path) and long distance touring with 4 loaded panniers. At 256g apiece, our 25mm tyres were svelte enough for training and fast commutes. Noting their operating pressures of 85-115psi, I initially set them up on my fixed gear time trial bike to see how they'd deliver at the higher pressures. Even at their maximum, the ride never felt harsh. More recently, someone else has put a thread on reporting similar side-wall blow-out problems with the 25mm Paselas. I responded by saying that, notwithstanding my experiences (and that of so many others) with the 28mm Paselas, the 25mm are so comfortable and responsive that I was continuing to standardise on them for my 25mm and 23mm tyres. Well I was wrong, because only a week or so after I'd said that I had a side-wall blow-out with a new (less than 200 miles) 25mm Pasela - thankfully on the rear, although it caused me enough grief.Which tyre is the best overall in terms of wheight/strenght/comfort? (Money is no object). I'm interested in 700x32c version of the tyres above.. Samurray wrote:OP, I would be very interested to hear any reports on your Tourguard Plus tyres. I have been considering getting these for a forthcoming tour beginning in April. Currently I use the (old) Pasela TG (26 x 1.75) and love them. Very fast rolling for such a tyre, very comfortable and in a year and a half commuting in London and cycling down to Cornwall (fully loaded) I've not had one flat. I had better go and *touch wood* now of course. Anyway, after something possibly a little more rugged for a one year trip. Each item entering Canada will be charged GST (General Sales Tax) and PST (Provincial Sales Tax - varies by province) based on the declared value.

The Panaracer Pasela is a touring bike tire that has been around for as long as we can remember. The Pasela is popular as a "supple tire" tire with the added benefit of good worldwide availability and decent pricing. Although we don't test "suppleness" in our lab, we're very curious about how the Pasela compares to the competition in our tests. Puncture Force Blunt Needle: The Blunt needle has a flat tip and won't split the casing wires. To puncture the tire, the blunt needle has to cut the casing wires. I'm sad to come to this, but no more Paselas of any size for me............I have a pair of new 23mm Paselas to go on for the coming summer, but I shall keep a weather eye on them and I will not buy Paselas again. He told me that he'd always been given to understand that Panasonic made all their own tyres in their own factory in Japan, and didn't make tyres for anyone else.

(made by Panasonic, didnt know that!) The Pasela PT is the ideal touring and commuting tyre. An all-condition tread pattern along with sizes for both road and MTB wheels makes this one of the most versatile tyres on the market.

Featuring tough PT Puncture Technology that is four time stronger than Kevlar, you need not worry about being slowed down by a flat. Combining this with 400D Lite Extra Cord makes this an incredibly resilient but surprisingly light tyre. Everyone seems to endorse Supremes apart from the fact that it might suffer from side wall cuts as well.

NOTE: As of 2021, we've improved the puncture resistance tests and now provide 'Total Puncture Score' as the main puncture resistance indicator. Fast commutes incorporating stop-go town centre sections with the usual hazards didn't tax them, and their sprightly persona kept things nimble and the right side of exciting. A Ultra-strong reinforcing additive that delivers high strength puncture resistance is applied to the tread section. Enhances the structural strength of the casing to increase puncture resistance.
