A foldable, metal cup rest, unique to the Pro among the Lattissima models, lets you accommodate glasses up to 5.5 inches tall or small espresso cups. You’re not going to fit a giant America-style coffee travel mug in there, but that’s really not what Nespresso is intended for. There's also an integrated light that helps you see where your cup is placed under the spout without cranking on your kitchen lights (helps when you want to sneak in that late night or early morning espresso shot). Start descaling by pushing the button and lever down at the same time for 3 seconds. An orange light will turn on.

To test the Lattissima One, we made an espresso and a cappuccino and timed how long it took to make, measured the noise level in use, as well as whether the coffees reached optimum temperature. We were keen to see how well the espresso crema held together and, ultimately, if it tasted any good. That is when we got our first Lattissima and the world was good, for almost four years. Then it started leaking water and it did not froth. We called Nespresso and they would fix it but would not loan us a machined that would froth milk. Both my wife and I like our coffee just so, and no other. In 40 years of marriage we have worked out what we like and do not like! A pop-up lid on the top of the tank lets you refill the tank without removing it from the machine, or pulling the tank off and filling in your sink. The lid is strong enough to serve as a handle to carry the reservoir when full.
You might think that capsule coffee will taste the same regardless of the machine it’s dropped into, but you’d be very wrong. The same flavour Nespresso capsule will taste very different depending on the temperature of the water, the flow rate and pressure. In fact the Latissima+ that we reviewed recently proved that point by producing quite poorly resolved results, no matter what flavour capsule we used. Once each coffee has been dispensed, the cleaning indicator lights up to nudge you to clean the Rapid Cappuccino System. We got away with rinsing it under the tap a few times after making coffees simultaneously, but a deeper hand-wash would be equally easy and is recommended when using regularly. Making a drink is as easy as switching it on, inserting a pod, closing the lever to hold it in place, and, if applicable, attaching the milk carafe (which needs to be stored in the fridge), before choosing the right button for your drink. The cup platform isn’t restricted by obstacles, so you can use any size of cup, and the milk carafe spout can also be moved and pointed into the cup, so there’s no chance of missing or dripping down the side. A sturdy drop-down support adapts it easily for espresso cups. A one-time-use item included with the coffee maker is a water hardness testing strip that is used to test your water. Of course you can do everything manually yourself by dispensing your shot (or shots) of coffee first and then hitting the milk button to add as much milk as you require. Whichever way you do it, though, you can be sure that the resulting drink will taste great. he machine arrives with a removable step that can be placed on the drip tray to ensure your espresso cup is nearer to the coffee spout. While this was useful for espresso cups, we found that our tea and coffee cups felt a little too large in relation to the rest of the design. The milk taste really bad if sitting in the plastic milk container for more than a day or 2. So I had to poor a little bit of milk into it every time I use it. The milk also smells like plastic and off sort of.

Although it looked good on paper, it failed to deliver the goods when it came to the quality of coffee produced. With that experience fresh in our minds, we weren’t expecting much from the De’Longhi Latissima Pro when it arrived, but how wrong we were. To save energy, the Lattissima will automatically shut off after nine minutes (adjustable through the control panel). Size-wise, the Pro is a little smaller than the Gran, at 7.6 inches, 13 inches tall and 10.8 inches deep, and about an inch bigger in all dimensions than the One. My Lattissima Pro sits on the counter of my small New York City kitchen without much sacrifice.
