About this deal

uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties. Martin Doorly’s company was registered in 1908, 2 years after the Rum Duty Act, and their Doorly’s Macaw Rum was the very first rum from Barbados to be exported pre-bottled rather than in a cask. Doorly’s 14YO – simply a fine spirit that can be enjoyed by itself at any time while it still works very well in classic drinks such as a Manhattan or Sazerac. A rich, spicy yet subtle rum with surprisingly mellow and complex flavours resulting from its maturation in old oloroso sherry casks.

This is not just a 12 year old rum, it’s a blend of rums that have been aged separately for 12 years in ex-Bourbon and ex-Madeira casks before being blended together. The distillery exports RL Seale 10 Year old, the Foursquare exceptional cask series, the Doorly’s range of fine rums amongst others. Prepare to embark on a journey of depth and intensity, an exploration of a realm where flavour knows no bounds. Seale acquired Doorly’s in 1993 and, in keeping its history, decided that it would become an export brand. Head distiller, Richard Seale, is one of the region’s most innovative distillers and blenders and has a passion for producing perfect rum with great flavour. This is a party rum, you can equally use this in a fruity punch or for an Old Fashioned and it won’t fail you. Top stuff from a top range, expect masses of tropical fruit, chewy caramel, leafy tobacco and fragrant oak notes throughout this gorgeous Barbados rum. The aforementioned brands were acquired over time by another well established blender at the time, R. Doorly’s 8 Year Old is molasses based, pot and column distilled and aged for 8 years in ex-Bourbon casks with, potentially, a component that was aged in former cognac casks for 8 years. This a double maturation rum, first one being for 5 years in ex-Bourbon casks and the second one going up to 3 additional years in former Oloroso casks – hence the lack of a number on the label, as I don’t think a “6 years old” in its branding would do it justice.

Great care is taken to work in harmony with the environment and this long established area of plantation is home to many varieties of the macaw family.Doorly's Rum is produced in the Foursquare distillery by the which is occupies an old sugar factory which dates back to 1636. Not my fave, as I immediately shared other peoples' views in that it's quite a dry Rum and I also prefer something a little more spiced and potentially with more sugar (El Dorado 15, Zapaca 23 or MG Black Barrel). Current head distiller, Richard Seale, is one of the region's most innovative distillers and blenders and has a passion for producing perfect rum with great flavour.

I don’t know the ratio of the blend, but that’s pretty much the beauty of it, you’ll just have to taste it. We invest more time and more money than other distilleries because we believe it makes a difference to the taste. This second maturation is carried out with oak already seasoned in the ageing of fine Spanish Oloroso Sherry. The flavour comes from the distillate and ageing in good quality barrels, in Barbados, for a substantial period of time. In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer. It all started in 1906 when the Rum Duty Act changed the way the rum was sold and distributed across Barbados as the distilleries had to have a license and were required to sell rum only in bulk quantities of 45 or more litres at a time. The XO is distinguished by a second maturation phase in Spanish oloroso sherry casks, which gives it an extra aroma finish and a unique flavour profile to savour.
