About this deal

Hunter_ is also, at times, downright embarrassing (the awful faux-reggae of "Little Caesar" is the worst offender) and an obvious attempt to recreate past triumphs ("The Beast" falls completely flat at trying to imitate the sexy rap of "Rapture" from _Autoamerican_). Misunderstood gem The dip in quality is quite scary when you compare this album to Autoamerican or even the last two releases before that, but right here we find Blondie giving us some of their strongest songs.

The fun, new wave, late seventies party disco vibe of their earlier albums has given way to some sort of gloom which for the most part doesn't entertain as much as it could.Debbie's lyrics on "The Beast" are so snarky and biting, I love that side of her songwriting: "For the first time in my life, the bouncers would greet me/the doormen would escort me/managers adored me. Only two singles were released from the album, Island Of Lost Souls (b-side: Dragonfly) and War Child (b-side: Little Ceasar). Another song that could have been made into a hit is "For Your Eyes Only," a bewitching and well-crafted melody originally penned for the 1981 Bond movie of the same name - it lost out, however, to Sheena Easton's number.

The producers of the film, however, favored a track composed by Bill Conti and Michael Leeson and asked Blondie to record that song instead. War Child" is another highlight, (the music is stellar) and this album also contains an extended version of this song. Danceaway" was planned for release as a single in Canada (backed with "For Your Eyes Only"), but was issued only extremely briefly before the single was withdrawn.

The Beast" deals with lead singer Debbie Harry's experiences of becoming a public figure: "I am the centre of attraction, by staying off the streets". The album concludes with a cover version of Smokey Robinson's " The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game", originally recorded by the Marvelettes in 1967. Blondie implodes Blondie waited too long between Autoamerican and this album -- a year-and-a-half is several lifetimes in pop music -- and the world forgot about them. At the least, it’ll have you wondering just how far an erstwhile New Wave pop group can row itself away from the mainstream before it finds itself out of the current altogether. The Hunter is the sixth studio album by American rock band Blondie, released on May 24, 1982, by Chrysalis Records.

It's dark and menacing, but strangely beautiful and a glimpse into the little-known talents of bassist Nigel Harrison, who also co-wrote the similarly dark "War Child. Ignore The Album Cover, The Record Rocks Ignore the idiotic album cover of Deborah Harry looking like Lassie the Collie and rescue dog. However, one imitation, the lead single "Island of Lost Souls" (an attempt to recreate the global chart-topper "The Tide is High") works surprisingly well and features a memorable melody and lyrics from Harry. In summary, this is an excellent album that suffered from a terrible album cover, poor lead off single, no number 1 pop songs, and a failed tour due to health problems. The New York-based rock group was briefly under consideration to perform the movie theme before Sheena Easton was chosen.

The first single (and also the only single released from this record) "Island of Lost Souls" is a calypso-flavored gem. However, there is no denying that the songs on _The Hunter_ lack the punch and bite of earlier efforts.
