About this deal

Last year was one of my first in quite awhile not having a classroom tree and I missed it tremendously. This is another fun DIY Christmas tree craft that’s perfect for kids (or adults who are young at heart). You’ll need some buttons, glue, and decorations of your choice. Once I cut the scrapbook paper, I traced it onto the cardboard and cut the cardboard to shape. Then, I applied a coat of Mod Podge onto the cardboard and placed the scrapbook paper onto the cardboard.

Once that coat of paint was dry, I lightly brushed some darker grey paint onto the scrapbook paper to slightly grunge it up a bit. Trace a pencil line down the center of each tree. With your box cutter, carefully slice down the pencil line, being sure to only pierce one side of the cardboard (leave the side that’s face-down intact). If you’re using very thin cardboard, you can probably skip this step and just crease your trees down the middle so that they can fold in half.I cut the burlap and cardboard to the same size triangle and secured the burlap onto the cardboard. I painted the burlap with the DecoArt graphite paint and layered a bit of brown paint to add dimension. The Bio-Earth Biodegradable Plastic Free Tree Shelter Guard has been developed by Green-tech over the last 2 years in light of the growing demand in the landscaping and forestry industry to reduce the use of plastic tree shelter tubes as protection during tree planting. They are made from a special water-proof cardboard which is 100% Biodegradable,100% recyclable, and 100% compostable.

For the final DIY cardboard tree, I used burlap instead of scrapbook paper, but repeated the same process. Use the utility knife with a fresh, sharp blade to cut out the cardboard tree shapes. (Adults only, of course.) Draw (freehand, you can do this!) the tree and then cut it out. I’m sure some sort of Xacto knife (or similar) was used. I pushed three wood dowels down into the candle holder top and glued it in place. Then, I positioned the cardboard triangle onto the wood dowels to create the height I wanted. Trace a tree onto a sheet of cardboard with your pencil. Consider the size and shape you’d like, and ensure that your tree is symmetrical. Keep in mind that to create one standing tree, you’ll need three flat cardboard trees of the exact same size.I missed it terribly. It just felt like something was missing the entire year. I loved entering the room each morning being greeted by that tree! For the first cardboard tree, I started by using a ruler to mark and cut the patterned textured scrapbook paper into a triangle. You can see the size of my trees in the tutorial video, but you can make yours as small or as large as you want. In the forthcoming Winter 2021 issue of Conservation Land Management ( CLM) magazine Jenny Price and Lyndsay Wayman-Rook describe how the Old Chalk New Downs project in Kent has been trialling biodegradable cardboard tree guards as an alternative to plastic. Here you can read a summary of the article. The Stage Zero approach – lessons from North America on restoring river, wetland and floodplain habitats This DIY Christmas tree craft is another easy and affordable option. You’ll need a few paper plates, some paint or markers, and some tape or glue.
