About this deal

Q: Poison for Breakfast is a whimsical mystery at heart. What mystery books inspired or captivated you as a child? This book is about bewilderment, a word which here means ‘the feeling of being bewildered’ and ‘bewildered’ is a word which here means ‘you don’t have any idea what is happening, and ‘you’ is a word which doesn’t just mean you. It means everyone. You have no idea what is happening, and nobody you know has any idea what is happening, and of course there are all the people you don’t know, which is most of the people in the world, and they don’t know what is happening either, and of course I don’t know what is happening or I wouldn’t have eaten poison for breakfast.”

Fact remains that it can ramble on for so long that the ball is lost, a phrase here that means that you cannot find a lot of meaning in what you're reading. Book Genre: Adult, Childrens, Contemporary, Fiction, Humor, Middle Grade, Mystery, Philosophy, Young Adult The following article or section concerns information that is considered canonical to the Netflix series, but it is unknown as to where it stands in the books' canon. It may also contain information contradictory to the books. Be very cautious when using this information as a source, or you may end up reporting for The Daily Punctilio, or on the lam. Whichever you consider worse. The eye symbol (rather infamously) does not have the acronym hidden inside. Instead, it heavily focuses on the eye aspect of the symbol, despite the fact that the symbol itself is supposed to represent the letters VFD. The life and death of Grigory Efimovich Rasputin is shrouded in mythology, making him an almost larger than life figure in Russian history. A sexual deviant, mystic healer, political saboteur and renegade monk, the mysterious Rasputin was both reviled and revered during his lifetime, and became a scapegoat for various dissident groups of the time period. Friday marks the 100-year anniversary of his controversial death on Dec. 30, 1916.

This was not quite as good as A Series of Unfortunate Events, but a) nothing ever is and b) it came pretty close and c) I liked the ending quite a bit, which is not something people say very often about A Series of Unfortunate Events. Translating every instance of V.F.D. into different languages is one of the difficulties the translators go through, as terms such as "Volunteer Fire Department", "Very Fancy Doilies", etc, don't have the same initials in every language. Two years later, a group of nobles led by a man named Felix Yusupov plotted to get rid of the holy man once and for all. On Dec. 30, 1916, Yusupov invited Rasputin to dine at his home. After a heavy meal, complete with wine and dessert, all supposedly heavily laced with poison, the men looked on, as amazingly, Rasputin showed no symptoms that the poison was having an effect on him. The men proceeded to shoot Rasputin, who, according to legend still drew breath after a barrage of bullets and only died after he was thrown into an ice-cold river to drown. However, while Rasputin’s death was in fact plotted by Yusupov and other nobles, autopsy reports show that no poison was found in Rasputin’s system and that he seems to have died from a single bullet to the head.

The V.F.D. Insignia (seen above) is an eye made from the letters 'V,' 'F,' and 'D.' Any member of V.F.D. who joined before the schism has a tattoo of the eye on their left ankle. After the schism, the practice of tattooing members desisted.

The third theory is that Rasputin had alcoholic gastritis, which can lead to having less stomach acid. Without acid in the stomach, the potassium cyanide can’t be converted into hydrogen cyanide, and is therefore considerably less toxic. It’s another plausible explanation, but no one really knows if Rasputin suffered from this complaint or not. Volunteers are recruited by V.F.D. at a very young age if they are seen by other volunteers to be observant, well-read, and excel in activities such as note taking, even those currently at apprenticeship. [5] Neophytes, or young trainees of V.F.D., are carried away by their ankles in the middle of the night. The following article or section concerns information that is considered even less canonical than the chance of a happy ending. Any information following should not be used as a source for the canon of the book series. Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. A: When I was young, the mysterious world of Edward Gorey captivated me like nothing else; as I grew older, Zilpha Keatley Snyder, Agatha Christie, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Auster, Muriel Spark, Toni Morrison, Haruki Murakami, Raymond Chandler, Percival Everett and Anne Carson carried this mysterious torch. I do realize that some of these people are not always considered to be mystery writers. But they are, they are.The theories as to why the cyanide didn’t kill Rasputin are almost as numerous as the theories of how he really died. What is surprising is that the theories are scientifically credible. I went into this (recommendation from my sister) thinking it’s going to be a little mystery, just like his A Series of Unfortunate Events, but boy was I wrong…. A brand-new book from the bestselling author of A Series of Unfortunate Events – a cautionary tale about his own demise. The organization's insignia appears to be an eye made up of the letters 'V', 'F', and 'D'. V.F.D. is the main international organization within the Series of Unfortunate Events books. Most of the recurring characters in said series are members.
