About this deal

A suspenseful, professional-grade north country procedural whose heroine, a deft mix of compassion and attitude, would be welcome to return and tie up the gaping loose end Box leaves. The unrelenting cold makes this the perfect beach read. I would absolutely read her next and since this was my first Bolton, I plan to read some of her popular titles. Any recs?? It’s not a spoiler to say that the novel’s title can also stand for Felicity’s mental condition. She has issues with losing time, sometimes finding herself in places she doesn’t remember going to—even waking up covered in blood. Joe asserts that Felicity is extremely troubled, but it takes time and a few very interesting hypnosis sessions before he realizes exactly what he is dealing with. He throws himself too far into her case and puts himself in serious danger by doing so. It’s suspenseful and fascinating and makes you forget all about the Antarctic opening—until we jump forward again in time. I present exhibit A, circled. I was so entrenched in The Split that I failed to provide the proper amount of attention to the head of the CNMCC, Pavel. To which he then felt it right and necessary to take his spite out on the corner of the book, by attempting to chew on it. Shameful behavior.

I read The Split as part of an online readalong with 60 other members of THE Book Club on Facebook. Having read Sharon’s previous standalone thrillers I knew we would be in for a twisty ride and boy was I right!Fictionophile’s OCTOBER 2023 #BookHaul #Bookbloggers #ForthcomingTitles #TBR #AnticipatedReads October 31, 2023 Sharon Bolton (often simply called S.J. Bolton) was born in Lancashire in the North of England in 1960. She is most famous for her crime fiction, which, as she herself has described it, helps her to face up to her own demons. Bolton’s novels tend to fall firmly within the genre of detective fiction. They tend, too, to focus on female protagonists. This is particularly the case with her ‘Lacey Flint’ series of detective novels. Dr. Grant has troubles of his own. He has been blamed for getting too close to a couple of homeless female patients. He is recovering from a stab wound inflicted by homeless Ezzy, who is always seen on a skateboard. The young woman developed a crush, resented him for ignoring her romantic overtures, and stabbed him out of jealousy. Another young homeless woman was murdered, and an old street woman missing, both known to Joe. Dr. Joe’s mother is a policewoman who warns him about the danger of appearing too friendly with female patients. The main suspect, Sean, is a man who stares at homeless people while they sleep in the street. They fear him and find him creepy. The police cannot locate him.

Felicity Lloyd is a glaciologist, working for the British Antartic Survey carrying out research on the annual melting of the glaciers. Before she left Cambridge for South Georgia, she was convinced someone was stalking her and coming to kill her. Now she feels safe, hidden in South Georgia where only a few organised tourist boats are allowed to stop for a short time.Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this incredible book’s ARC COPY with me in exchange my honest review. I congratulate Sharon J. Bolton for creating something so unique, extraordinary and stunning. I will mention some of the highlights of the story without revealing any of the twists and surprises. A year ago Felicity Lloyd fled England to south Georgia, one of the most remote islands in the world, escaping her past and the man she once loved. Can she keep running her whole life?
