About this deal

The ring does not twist all the way around – after hitting the Spot+Flood mode in a clockwise motion, you have to reverse and go counterclockwise. flashlight has an impressive maximum output of 15000 lumens from the Luminus SFT70 and 16 x Lumiled HL2X LEDs. If, for instance, you use the light in the (combined) mode of 4000 lumens, you do use a bright beam for quite a while. When being used as a battery indicator, four blue lights will illuminate when the battery is between 80% and 100%, three time when between 60% and 80%, twice when between 40% and 60%, one when between 20% and 40% and if one blue light flashes the battery level is critical, between 0% and 20%. This little (3535 size) Luxeon LED has been around for a few years, had some testing done at BLF, and never really seemed to generate much interest in the enthusiast space.

To demonstrate the enormous power of the light I tested the LR40R at a couple of spacious locations. With this light you once again notice the quality when it comes to the finish: the light looks great and all parts fit neatly together.

Lock: With the the light switched off and unlocked, simultaneously press the two switches for 3 seconds, the light will blink 2 times on Eco of spotlight mode to indicate locked status. Covering more than 100 countries and tens of millions of users worldwide, Fenix has won the recognition and praise of users for its excellent product performance and has become one of the world's famous high-end mobile lighting brands.

It is not that long ago that a flashlight with an output of a couple thousand lumens was labelled as 'impressive'. I could have gone a number of ways with testing here, but I went with what seemed most logical to me. Those are button tops, and if you bring your own 18650 cells to the game, you’ll need button tops too.If you need a lot of a light at larger distances the TK75-2018 or the RC40-2016 could be a better fit.

You immediately notice the narrow beam that will enable you to look for and light up objects in a very targeted way. From my experience, Fenix lights are really well designed, they use quality materials and finishes, have great constant-current drivers, and publish truthful ANSI specs. The rechargeable lights come with the required charging cord, and they all use USB charging, as many electronics these days are going to the electronic charging and the majority of our consumers have the wall bricks for charging phones or other items.

mAh battery provides sufficient power for LR40R V2 to throw a continuous beam beyond 500 metres for an impressive 3 hours. Four LEDs is 80-100% power, three LEDs is 60-80% power, two LEDs is 40-60% power, one LED is 20-40% and one flashing LED is less than 20% power and the torch should be charged as soon as possible when at this stage. The torch is an upgraded version of the popular V1 and offers brighter outputs, further reach and improved runtimes. The spotlight LED (the SFT70) is ever-so-slightly out of center on my sample, so it’s possible that is contributing a small amount.

When I look closer at the inside of the light I also notice how Fenix nicely puts its products together and properly finishes them. Just like when deciding if a large camp knife or axe is worth carrying the weight when out in the wild, you will need to positively decide you want to carry the weight of the LR40R V2. The light features 3 individual modes, distance beam, floodlight beam and combined distance/floodlight beam. For full product details please refer to the user manual in the images area and linked in the specifications area. This means that the intensity has decreased so much, it becomes difficult to see darker objects, or objects that don’t reflect light. The advantage when compared to smaller lights is that the LR40R lasts a really long time in this mode, while, for instance, the UC52 from the middle class is unable to do so.
