I have a Denon AVR-S750H and a STR-DH790 and I”m trying to decide which to keep. I was expecting the AVR-S750H to be significantly better, I got it for a great price at $350 while I paid about a retail $300 for the STR-DH790. After running the calibration the Sony sounds really good but at times I have to turn it up close to the top of it”s range, which I was hoping to avoid. After running the calibration software on the Denon the bass seems completely flat and almost nonexistent. The software set it to -12 as opposed to the -10 for the Sony but the difference in sound is monumental. My question is did I do something wrong when calibrating or should I simply turn the base up on the Denon? I appreciate the help.

Sure, turn the bass up to where it sounds good. It is your gear and there is no law against that.Frankly, very few people like linear accurate bass. Almost all of us like the subwoofer turned up a few steps!

Thanks, Nate. I guess I was just second guessing that either I was doing something wrong or something was wrong with the receiver. I guess the Sony just calibrates for more bass.

Well, I”m not familiar with the Sony auto calibration system and it may not EQ the bass, which would influence how it sounds as well.
