Lance Corporal Derek Derenalagi, a native Fijian, joined the British Army in 1999 serving in Northern Ireland and Iraq. I was recommended this book by one of the team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital burns unit when I was there earlier this year, which is where the author spent 2 years of his life. Jamie was training to be a pilot in the USA when his plane engine caught fire during a training flight. Jamie added that one of his 'greatest love affairs,' was diving, and he was overjoyed at being able to go back to his hobby following the accident.
