To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The game at six players is just as fast as it was with four, and with lower player counts I always add in the AI riders for extra excitement. The original game only included rules and components for 2 to 4 players which was a shame as whenever a race was in progress it would attract many people to the table all wanting a go. The odds are that most players in the Supply Zone will be moving exactly four spaces, either burning exhaustion cards or playing lower cards and “drafting” on the boost.

The fact that the usefulness of winning the Breakaway variant is,and will be, constantly debated makes me feel that it is perfectly balanced. Flamme Rouge: Peloton, the first expansion for Flamme Rouge, offers a chase group of four riders (pink and white rouleurs and sprinters) that allows the base game to be played with up to six players. I had noticed the increasing mentions about the rise of fascism in other countries (1930's) as the show went on, with the usual talk of not needing to worry about it.The strategy improvements of Peloton are just as subtle as the strategy found in the original release. A big part of the game is trying to guess what other players will do, and since the AI is pretty random you can’t outguess or outplay your opponent. Even while justifying it in my mind as a balancing mechanism when playing with new players, no one wants to start at a perceived (or real) disadvantage. And while mountains represent a challenge, the shear likelihood of “crashing” into someone and having precious movement points wasted makes cobblestones particularly thrilling.

It’s a lot of strategy without a bunch of complicated rules, and the simple variance in the track width shows off the versatility of the system. There are supply zones where you can get a refreshing bottle of water (move a minimum of 4 spaces) letting your sprinteurs (bad french accent compulsory) catch their breath a bit.Also, if you’re itching to put your own races on the table, some guidelines have been put in the rulebook for building your own tracks to make them fair and playable. This is an exciting prospect both for the breakaway riders wondering whether they’ll make it, and for the main Peloton behind them attempting to chase them down across the entire race. The Peloton expansion adds a generous collection of new elements without overwhelming the game, a genuinely impressive achievement. Full disclosure: I can’t say I’ve had the opportunity to play with such a large group, but I imagine it would be entertaining – even if putting each individual player into the hands of fate more than the standard game.

The extra riders and track pieces add more detail to the game without changing the complexity and playing this game at 6 player is, in my opinion, a much more enjoyable experience. fi FLAMME ROUGE Flamme Rouge is a fast-paced, tactical bicycle racing game where each player controls a team of two riders: a Rouleur and a Sprinteur.

In this variant the second tile of the race has a special space or two (according to player count) where riders can start the race from. Another new feature is an opening breakaway: an opportunity for two riders to start the game several spaces ahead of the pack. If your starting place is at the back of the pack, it may be worth bidding up a bit to get a better starting position. Once again, these new tiles add a little strategy as you think about how to enter and leave the supply zones to maximize the benefit.It seems like the space isn’t quite far enough ahead to be worth the bid, especially given the inherent likelihood of absorbing a lot of Exhaustion cards. This will transfer you to the payment system of your bank or credit card company for completing your purchase. The Flamme Rouge: Peloton expansion adds pink and white as new player colors and expands the player count to six players (or twelve players if you choose to only play as one of the two racers per team).
