About this deal

If you’re not familiar with Etymotic IEMs, you can find the insertion instructions here: https://www. Aside from it's lack of LF and HF extension and a slightly blurry dynamic response, I'd consider it tonally perfect through the midband and quite balanced overall. ER2SE is also the IEM of choice for consumers who prefer to listen to their music exactly the way it was recorded.

Eartips tip: after going through Comply T100, T100 Comfort, Etymotic foams and triple flange, Comply Pro I found my old Weston foam tips which are the worst design I have seen. Once the Etymotics are in my ears, they’re fine, but repeatedly removing and re-inserting them got to be kind of a drag. The detachable housings elongate the ER2SE lifespan as listeners can easily replace the cable if it frays. Etymotic’s original earphone design used balanced armature receivers, which established these speakers as the gold standard for high definition in-ear earphones. This isn't going to give you a GRAS coupler - many clones (including Crinacle's) still have some idiosyncrasies, such as that 1 kHz wobble that was discussed early on in this thread. but those never really made it to production and so are effectively useless as an impressions touchstone I think.

It would be embarrassing but I felt I wanted some middle ground, of semi clean ears to have enough lubrication to prevent the itchy inner feeling that can be very distracting. Skip ahead to part of the chorus at 1:54; when Maeson sing’s “I said I saw you in the water,” most earbuds amplify the piano too much right as he says “water. For a while, this target was the gold standard for neutrality – but these days, many people prefer the Harman target, which is a little bit warmer and plays into listener preferences a bit more. I settled on red 2200Ohm and I have no complains, lower mids have a bit more substance, and I do not hear anything different in other areas. It's dry, as mentioned above, with adequate but generally unremarkable impact paired with surprisingly nice delineation on fast bass solos; it's remarkably easy to follow basslines during busier passages in a song. The ER2XR provides impactful bass response while maintaining the clarity in the midrange and highs that Etymotic is known for. It's impressive how Fiio has considered the upgrade path for E7 DAC owners by integrating an iPod-style dock connector into the E9.

These earphones are perfectly in tune with the newest innovations in music players that support a 3. Both offer “studio responses,” meaning dead neutrality with maybe a slight bass roll-off to prevent bass from getting obtrusive (but not much of one). Etymotic IEMs are more on the realists side - which means they stick to their principle that the soundstage perceived will depend on how your mind or ear perceives it, and depends if the track is recorded widely, narrow, or compressed. I’ve been using the ER2XRs with Sensaphonics sleeves as my main IEMs on stage for the last couple of years over Future Sonics, Westone, UE, and others.

Rocket is still a league ahead of 2XR in terms of comfort, but the 2XR does have a bit more extension in the sub region and more colorful timbre with a less microphonic cable. All products sold on Headphone Zone carry a GST compliant invoice and all products sold include an 18% GST.

I’ve been very impressed with the ER2SE – in fact, I own a pair myself, and you can read my review of them here. The solution turns out be a shorter and less sharply tapered new dual-flange ear-tip design from Etymotic, which worked a charm for me, providing ease of insertion, an excellent seal and long term comfort. A Flat sound signature offers an accurate presentation of sounds without adding colour to your music.
