About this deal

However, he often forgets to take care of his personal space and has monthly transformations into a werewolf. the end definitely felt like too much for me, i really didn’t like it at all but it goes with the rest of the story i guess… it was so rushed too i don’t know i really didn’t like the ending. On the other hand, the fact that Brian's friends guessed long ago that he's a werewolf was charming. The narrative transitions from a contemporary adult novel to a fantasy young adult one in the blink of an eye.

More than that, though, and like Scooby Doo with Grindr or Stranger Things with sex and ennui, it's a buddy novel about finding your pack, the power of friendship, and learning how to be comfortable in your own, shaggy werewolf pelt. For me I found that It was a pleasant surprise to find a book that didn't rely on romantic subplots to drive the story forward. There all are these lessons I've learned on my way: how to 'harness the best within' through strength training; the importance of communing with nature; repeating regular affirmations to control your emotions and manage your monthly transition. The title of this book is such a hilarious draw to read it, and it really gets across the tone, which is partly satirical, partly fun, and partly a sincere look at queer community and finding your people. He doesn’t really have a plan of how to live his life as a werewolf, drinking heavily and often waking up in a forest with blood on his face and he knows he has killed at least a couple of people. Brian has a good group of friends but is struggling with his transition into adulthood, almost as much as his monthly transitions to a werewolf.

I wanted to give up after the first chapter but I pushed myself, wanting to give it a fair shot, I’m 44% in and I just can’t! A novel about themes toxic masculinity and capitalism, expressed with charm, humour, and a few splatters of blood.

Upon reading the title, my initial impression was that this book would be a delightful and enchanting queer romance with a supernatural twist. Not perfectly imperfect in beautiful ways, but believably humanly flawed… even if they’re actually a werewolf.

i think what makes this book interesting is the critic of toxic masculinity, capitalism et cætera… i genuinely thought it was interesting to read. It sounded perfectly natural, it suited the character, and it hit all the right tones of apathy, frustration, exasperation, and sass. Characters are good, but we never feel like we know enough about Darby and Nik, as the story focuses so much on Tyler and his clique. As someone who ticks two of those boxes (I’ll let you decide which), I knew I had to read this book as soon as I saw it, but I was not prepared for how much I would love it.Seriously though, I don’t read a lot of books that don’t have romance, so it’s always refreshing to find one, especially with a queer MC.

I'd like to extend a huge thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of Bored Gay Werewolf in exchange for an honest review. But seeing the description of this book being of a gay man in a dead end job trying to work out where he'd going in life. The book wasn't lacking in any way, as it still manages to deliver a thrilling and entertaining storyline.Tony Santorella was born and raised in Danvers, Massachusetts, site of the Salem Witch Trials and related hauntings.
