What you wear under a waterproof jacket can be a very subjective question depending on what activity you are doing. If visibility on the fells was a criteria of mine I would have opted for pink but went for the safe, no colour clashing, dark blue. The two zippered hand pockets are each large enough to swallow a climbing skin, and the zippered chest pocket is fairly spacious, holding a hat and map. The Firefly Orange coloured version I tested certainly makes you stick out from the crowd on flat, drizzly overcast mountain days, but with different colours to choose from, all tastes are can catered for. Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.

It protects the surface of the fabric from becoming saturated with water and dirt and helps repel light rain. I've read a few threads on here with some people loving a jacket and others having absolute failures. For climbers it has a helmet compatible hood, but it is still a trim fit without one, it also has articulated arms for movement. The main use of the jacket would be for mountain walking, predominantly in The Lakes and Wales but occasionally in Scotland, across all seasons. All Montane garments come with care labels which include wash care instructions relating to the fabric composition used to create the garment. Outdoor Action Recommends using recommended cleaner such as Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash. Before washing your waterproof jacket, zip the front closure, pockets and pit zips completely, and fasten all flaps and straps. Built with 75 denier fabrics throughout and 3-layer Gore-Tex, this jacket is designed to withstand heavy use.From a design perspective, I do wonder if Montane could have made the jacket with underarm vents to help with the breathability when the going gets tough. If you run warm this may not be the right jacket for you as the compromise is breathability, which would become more of an issue in the warmer months.

If your item is under warranty, please contact us so that we can resolve the claim in the best and most timely manner.The fit in a medium size is quite slim, and although we can fit all the extra layers needed for winter use, it might be a little too tight for some. After time as the item is used more and more Rainwater will soak up into the jacket rather than repelling, although water will not penetrate through, the jacket will become heavier and allot less breathable. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Having had the jacket for six months now, using it in a variety of situations, the brighter colour is however, already starting to show the dirt from its endeavours. Worn over base and insulation layers while resort skiing, it was similarly a bulwark against pelting from horizontal snow and graupel and bone-chilling winds.

It’s comfortable for hiking, climbing, or skiing up or down with a pack on in cool to sub-freezing temps, so you won’t easily overheat, and more zippers only add superfluous grams. I also wanted a hood that would be big enough to wear with a hat / helmet but snug enough that it can be used on its own without blowing off. I’m a size 10/12 and opted for 12 to give me more space to layer up and I have found that this has worked well for me.
