About this deal

She snorts when she laughs, is known to dye her hair with vibrant streaks of color, and simply does not sit down. Just like any other running shoe, when you take it into vertical and technical terrain of consequence, you might wish you were wearing a more technical approach shoe like the Scarpa Crux. The midsole contains very little padding, so long hikes aren't as comfortable in the TX2 Evo as they are in the TX4. I’m sure this performance fit is great for certain endeavors, but has definitely left me wishing for a little more width and volume on longer days.

I use Enertor or other higher-quality, after-market insoles when I’m putting my feet through an unusual amount of stress, like taking a very long ultra-dayhike. I had to tie them in a knot as they weren’t long enough to form a bow, let alone my preferred double knot. The other reason I’ve started to reach for the TX3 almost exclusively is the padding in the midsole. When standing in slings and aiders for hours on end, you'll want a stiff and supportive outsole to prevent the sling from pinching your feet all day. The heel and toe are protected with PU caps, and a TPU overlay extends from under the lacing eyelets back to the heel.

If for some reason you need an approach shoe that can handle delicate edging or higher-end climbing performance, I think a lower volume fit and more sensitive midsole like that on the Cruzer Classic might make more sense.

Hiking into the Bugaboos, I carried a 60-pound pack and found the cushioning and support of the TX3 more than sufficient under a large load. This is my go-to shoe for technical hikes, heavy packs, and slower days, so the added weight isn’t felt in the same way it would be for a trail runner. Earning our highest praise for climbing ability, we find the La Sportiva TX Guide to be the best shoe for smearing, edging, and crack climbing due to its precise, narrow fit and stiff midsole.Over months and sometimes years, we approached, scrambled, descended, hiked, schlepped, and slogged in each pair of shoes, as well as performing specific objective tests and climbing selected routes. Apparently, so has Tommy Caldwell: Referencing the redesign of La Sportiva's legacy shoe, the TC Pro, Caldwell offered, “This was an aspect of the project that. If you're interested in the best rock climbing ropes or looking for the best climbing harness, we've got you covered for all things climbing, including a curated list of the top climbing gear out there. It's important to point out that this shoe is narrow, and wide-footed users report discomfort in the toe box. The “climbing zone” toe, featuring Vibram® Mega-Grip™ Traverse rubber, coupled with the burly Trail Bite™ Heel Platform provides maximum grip in scree and mud.
