In the weeks preceding the release of the album, music videos of the tracks Rocket Man, Under The Ivy, Experiment IV and The Man I Love were released on YouTube with a written commentary by Kate. I wanted to make it different from the original and thought it could be fun to turn it into a reggae version. I'm not sure what else I can add - apart from Kate Bush's curiously moving vocal tone, phrasing and peculiarly English sound seem to work on some other exquisite level.

It isn't a complete rarities collection as tracks like The Empty Bullring are omitted, but it saves hunting down all the CD singles and means you can play, for instance, the 12-inch versions of Hounds of Love singles in one go (that's Disc One) or Kate's covers of other peoples' songs (Disc Four). There are some notable omissions to the rarities and B-sides in the set, including "The Empty Bullring" (B-side to " Breathing"), "Not This Time" (B-side to " The Big Sky"), "Ken" and "The Confrontation" (B-sides to " Love and Anger") as well as single versions of some tracks, instrumental versions, and extended/alternate mixes of " Rubberband Girl", " Eat the Music", " The Red Shoes" and " December Will Be Magic Again". Watching this video, after listening to Kate’s music for so many years, I am struck by the consistent quality of her work. Released in March 2019, the set contained a selection of 12" mixes and B-sides as well as a selection of cover versions. It looks like a complete overview, but there are still tracks missing, like ‘Ken’, or ‘Not this time’.THE OTHER SIDES offers a plethora of B-sides, 12” mixes, and other rare tracks, including an entire disc’s worth of covers recorded by Bush, including a couple of classic Elton John songs (“Candle in the Wind,” “Rocket Man”) and “The Man I Love,” written by George and Ira Gershwin. Take the reading of “Rocket Man,” written by another soulmate, Elton John, arranged with fiddle and uilleann pipes into loping Celtic reggae (something to do, perhaps, with the “high as a kite” line? That meant I also had the chance to direct the video which I loved doing – making it a performance video, shot on black and white film, featuring all the musicians and… the Moon! The frustrating bit, of course, was that all of the actual albums contained within the REMASTERED sets were already available separately, but that particular compilation was not.

Previous Fish People releases were marginally better value, but when the collection is a fine and desirable - if imperfect - one any Kate Bush fan should obtain a copy. The Billie Holiday vehicle “The Man I Love” gets a less-radical transformation, with production/arrangement by George Martin in the style of Lady Day’s 1939 Vocalion recording, complete with muted trumpet. While the Remastered in CD II box set features this compilation as a single album, the Remastered in Vinyl IV box set features it split across 2 parts. But lately its brilliance feels especially prescient, reflected variously in the sound and approach of (among others) Robyn, Florence Welch, and Annie St.The French version of Never For Ever’s “The Infant Kiss” (“Un Baiser D’Enfant”), based on the 1961 film The Innocents, and the French original “Ne T’Enfuis Pas,” make a diptych suggesting Bush might’ve had a nifty collaboration with Serge Gainsbourg.
