About this deal

And, having spent development money up front before thinking to check the license situation, Hornby could get their Lion to market before Rapido’s TT. Further, they released a Youtube video in response to Hornby's announcement, in which they stated that they had an exclusive license for the production of Titfield Thunderbolt model trains from Studiocanal, the film's rightsholder, and that they and Studiocanal would enforce their IP rights. It's a shame - as Sam'sTrains said on YT - soon there'll be not Hattons, no Accurascale, No Cavalex etc.

When a rival bus company sabotages the newly acquired train prior to an official inspection, the villagers resurrect the line’s first locomotive, Thunderbolt, and, against great odds, obtain permission to keep their line open. uk (powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase, and we can sell Great British Rail Sale fares! So, possibly Rapido had decided to get the licensing issue nailed down *before* starting development work and publicity, whereas Hornby started development and then only belatedly thought to do their legal homework. We can now also arrange UK-wide collections for boxed consignments weighing up to 30kg – just contact us with the item and address details, we’ll send a courier, and you can sit back and wait for the auction proceeds to arrive in your bank account. Personally I would like to congratulate Hornby on an (unintentionally) excellent piece of advertising. Studio Canal and Rapido had a very public arrangement to produce models of the Titfield props in recognition of the 70th anniversary of the film. StudioCanal owns the rights to a lot of older movies, as part of a portfolio they have steadily built up over time.

It’s a darn shame a greedy media group have the final say on an item that would probably sell quite well.I’m not really affected by this personally but, as a point of interest, will the previous Titfield Thunderbolt sets Hornby has issued in the past be affected in some way by the licensing issues? Nothing secretive about it, there didn’t need to be, Rapido acquired the licensing rights from Studio Canal in a legal and professional manner. I was therefore extremely disappointed when they announced packs that appeared solely aimed at fans of fictional representations (or possibly an attempt at ignoring intellectual property for those with a cynical mind). Comprising a 0-4-2 tank locomotive, RN 1401, Lowmac wagon with coach body load and a Western region brake van.

Hornby announced their Lion model last year with the tagline 'The cat's out of the bag', stating that they had heard there would be a leak that they were producing Lion and they had decided to announce it early. It was marketed as a pack, celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the film and, as already mentioned, the loco was a 14XX No.I thought (and perhaps I'm wrong) that Hornby had been working on their concept before Rapido made their announcement. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Rapido Trains unveils all-new ‘OAA’ open wagon Rapido Trains UK has immortalised BR’s first ‘new generation’ wagon in ‘OO’ gauge, the 45t Open AB open wagon, better known as ‘OAA’.

So sorry to have heard about this unexpectedly disapoointing decision made by Hornby on it’s removal of The Titfield Thunderbolt from said Range for the Foreseeable Future. have decided to remove the two ‘Trains of Film’ packs from the Hornby 2022 product range and acknowledges and accepts that Studiocanal owns the licensing rights to the ‘Thunderbolt’ locomotive as depicted in the ‘Titfield Thunderbolt’ film as well as Dan Taylor’s grounded carriage body. Hornby have missed a trick, but can still go ahead and produce a model of “Lion” as preserved, or in presumed 1830s condition (along with its two sister locos) for sale to modellers of the 1830s, the 1930s (Lion), of preserved railways, or collectors.I find It’s funny that Simon says give us suggestions it’s your range, yet for the decade plus people were screaming for the class 91 we were ignored, yet the second Cavalex announced it, off Hornby went. I suspect that StudioCanal had a pre-existing arrangement with Rapido Trains for their Titfield products. This isn't the first time Hornby have made a Titfield-related set; their 2013 catalogue lists R3186 - "Trains on Film: 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' Train Pack", containing an all-over black 14xx, attempt at Dan's house on the Loriot Y, and a brakevan. In terms of trademarks, those extant before 01/01/2021 in Europe still hold value in the UK at the current time.
