About this deal

This is the first complete serial of the work; a short excerpt from its opening paragraphs was released around a month earlier as "The Visitor" in Now and Then magazine. From Russia, with Love was released in serialized form just before the publication of the book edition. This plot has nearly killed Kerim once with a bomb and they attack Bond and Kerim a second time while they are visiting a gypsy friend of Kerim's. Fleming himself interpreted his creation in the same way, once saying that Bond was the intelligence community's "strong right hand" in the fight against communism (ibid. It begins with SMERSH, the Soviet assassination agency, seeking to redeem itself from a series of failures that have led some within the Soviet government to criticise the organization.

The first great English detective novel, Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone is presented in a Folio Society limited edition of 750 numbered copies. Limited edition, number 30 of 100 sets attractively bound in quarter vellum from a total edition of 406 sets, published to commemorate the centenary of Fleming's birth. The two men spend a great deal of time together over the next few days because Kerim believes Bond should not sit in one place and wait for Tatiana to approach him. Publisher Allen Lane began his Penguin imprint in the UK, and in 1935 launched an American subsidiary, Penguin Books, Inc. Chapman also considers the film's portrayal of gender politics, with its queer villains counterpoised with the heterosexual couple Bond and his Russian counterpart Tatiana Romanova, the context of Cold War politics, and the influence of Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959).From Russia, with Love is frequently considered the best James Bond novel by many fans and critics (although even critical opinion varies greatly). His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. This is also the first novel in which Bond receives a gadget from Q-Branch, although Q himself is not featured.

The literary agent Peter Janson-Smith was very active in promoting the short stories prior to publication in book form, and Fleming acknowledged and indeed defended this in writing to his publisher, who may have felt their bound edition was to be somewhat compromised or undermined. M and Bond are both suspicious, but are intrigued by the odd setup and the huge payoff, and decide to play along for the time being.Tatiana is in Bond's bed naked when he comes back to the hotel Kristal Palas (based on the real Pera Palas Hotel). SMERSH, a contraction of Smiert Spionam—Death to Spies—exists and remains today the most secret department of the Soviet government. According to Higson, Fleming spent the first four novels changing the style of his books, and his approach to his characters, but in From Russia, with Love the author "finally hits on the classic Bond formula, and he happily moved into his most creative phase".

Steel caps = service teeth" - seems a foreshadowing of the character Sol 'Horror' Horowitz in the Spy Who Loved Me, further adapted as the character of Jaws in later Bond films. A significant Fleming manuscript, his notebook filled with observations, questions, and ideas from his observation of the 23rd annual conference for the International Criminal Police Commission in Turkey, gathering material which had a clear influence on From Russia, With Love and the remainder of the Bond series. He uses bribes and trickery to have two of them taken off the train, but he is later found dead in his compartment with the body of the third MGB agent. Ta In From Russia, with Love Fleming wanted to promote a "West is the best" message by creating two parallel characters who would prove Western superiority over the Soviet Union.First American paperback edition, first printing, inscribed "To Kurt Enoch from Ian Fleming"; v) The Spy Who Loved Me, 1963. From Russia, With Love; [together with] On Her Majesty's Secret Service; [and] Murder Before Breakfast [From a View to a Kill]. Following on from the character development of Bond in his previous four novels, Fleming adds further background to Bond's private life, largely around his home life and personal habits, with Bond's introduction to the story seeing him at breakfast with his housekeeper, May. The story centres on a plot by SMERSH, the Soviet counter-intelligence agency, to assassinate Bond in such a way as to discredit both him and his organisation. x 8 1/2 Book; binding tight with near fine gilt titles to spine, mild bumping to corners else black and blue boards straight and clean; text, with blue top stain, free of marks, appears unread.

In 1960 the novel was also adapted as a daily comic strip in the paper and was syndicated worldwide. Kerim takes Bond to dinner at his friend's gypsy camp, which comes under attack from Soviet agents in an assassination attempt against Kerim, whom the Soviets think they need out of the way for their trap to work. The same month the diver Lionel Crabb had gone missing on a mission to photograph the propeller of the Soviet cruiser Ordzhonikidze while the ship was moored in Portsmouth Harbour, an incident that was much reported and discussed in British newspapers. The bloodthirsty biographies of the world’s most infamous pirates are reproduced in this Folio edition of Captain Charles Johnson’s renowned work, including original woodcut illustrations and a fascinating introduction by Margarette Lincoln. Enter Tatiana Romanova, a ravishing Russian spy whose â defection' springs a trap designed with clockwork precision.Woollacott and Bennett argue that in selecting Bond as the target for the Soviets, he is "deemed the most consummate embodiment of the myth of England". Bond manages to slip his metal cigarette case into his book and throw it up where Grant said he would shoot just as the train goes into the darkness of the tunnel. It appears that a person named James Bond sent Fleming a "most imaginative New Year's card" at the beginning of 1963 informing the author of his existence. Charmed Life arrives in an explosion of magic in this edition illustrated by Alison Bryant and introduced by Katherine Rundell. From Russia, with Love deals with the East–West tensions of the Cold War, and the decline of British power and influence in the post-Second World War era.
