I can hardly believe it is now twenty years and five more books later - Blackman's final delve into her parallel world with the sixth book in the series 'Endgame'. I feel that Malorie Blackman could have finished this story off in the last book instead of carrying it over into this book. The action shifts from character to character, and there was - on occasion - a sense of deliberate attempts to misdirect us. The story flowed very smoothly and didn’t overload with an information dump or plot dot points either.
In my Crossfire review I said how I didn't really like Troy and Libby as I felt their characters weren't really written well: I think they improved a lot in this book and I didn't feel annoyed at all whilst reading their chapters - actually, I think the character development for everyone was done really nicely. I felt incredibly happy for Libby and how she finds the sense of belonging and family that she had been lacking fir most of her life.Hotjar sets this cookie to know whether a user is included in the data sampling defined by the site's daily session limit. However, even though I had no idea about the pre-existing books nor their plot points, I dived in regardless, I mean you have to live a little dangerously right?
My only criticism is that Meggie was given a Caribbean accent (must probably because she's first encountered after having cooked plantain and fishcakes, so an assumption was made), despite the fact that she is a naught and this is critical to her character.I am happy with Libby's ending, the fact that she finally got a loving and stable family to live in, much needed after her traumatic childhood. Becky Chambers's new series continues to ask: in a world where people have what they want, does having more even matter? In Jake's English home town, tensions are rising between those who oppose the war in Afghanistan, and those who consider Muslims as traitors.
