About this deal

I wouldn't be surprised to discover the original stampers weren't worn out, as 1997 was a low point for vinyl, and they probably didn't press too many at the time. I'm just now thinking of pursuing his discography on vinyl, but wondered about the easily found remasters from a few years back. This album features the original tracks carefully remastered from the original source material under the supervision of Larry Crane, owner of Jackpot! Either/Or' ultimately provides a very enjoyable, and laid-back listening experience, but when you start to listen closely to the lyrics, you'll soon see how dark and disturbing the majority of these songs were.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of this masterpiece, Kill Rock Stars proudly presents Either/Or: Expanded Edition. Smith's music usually revolves around him and an acoustic guitar which means that while the 2017 versions are sharper there is not a quantum leap in quality. Indeed, some will complain that the ramshackle charm and the little mistakes in the originals have been ironed out.If you're an Elliott Smith fan - this is a must; even if you want to start listening to him, this is a must.

The last LP he released with independent label Kill Rock Stars, the record saw an expansion in Smith’s sound, while retaining the raw, often desolate emotional heft with which he’d become synonymous. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. Through its dozen tracks, the album oscillates between harmony and dissonance, sentiment and cynicism, culminating in a record that is unmistakably and unabashedly “Elliott Smith”.The second disc features five live multi-track recordings from the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia, WA in 1997, as well as three previously unreleased studio recordings and one b-side gem. Others worth a mention in dispatches include the bittersweet "Rose Parade" with the immortal opening lines "You asked me to come down and watch the parade/To march down the street like the Duracell bunny/With a wink and a wave from the cavalcade/Throwing out candy that looks like money". Ranking as one of the best albums of the 1990s, and always (if you care for such things) mentioned within lists of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by the likes of Rolling Stone, NME etc. Hailed as a "future folk hero" by Alternative Press, Elliott Smith's Either / Or represents a stylistic and songwriting breakthrough, taking it to the "next level," creatively speaking. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted.

Recorded in several locations mostly in Portland, Oregon while Smith was still in Heatmiser and produced by Smith, Tom Roth rock and Rob Schnapf, Either/Or was released on February 25, 1997 through record label Kill Rock Stars following the demise of Heatmiser. The mastering on vinyl makes this incredible record justice, impeccable crafted songs, arrangements and performance expanding way beyond its low budget studio sessions. One of our favorite Elliott Smith records in an edition of 600 copies on 'Alameda Twist' blue, pink and white colored vinyl. There is a 180g reissue in print (with sticker in image below) that might still be pressed from the same parts, anyone have the deadwax for the 180g?

Of the new content, the five live tracks recorded at the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia, Washington in 1997 are of pristine quality with the harrowing "Some Song" especially powerful. On Either / Or, Smith observes a production ethic that retains a lo-fi looseness without sacrificing any sonic clarity. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Elliott Smith’s best-selling and greatly beloved album, Either/Or, Kill Rock Stars proudly presents Either/Or: Expanded Edition. It's no secret that Smith dealt with alcoholism and addiction, but through his music you can see that he was able to experience love as well. The result is this remaster of the original plus a bonus disc of unreleased live tracks, three unreleased songs and a number of curiosities.

All that's left to say is Rest in Peace Elliott, and thank you for all the music that will continued to be enjoyed for many years to come. The constant push and pull between the dissonant and melodic, dealing with today's disappointment and loneliness knowing that things could change tomorrow.

Gathering it up into one source, however, confirms Smith's genius and once again proves that the "torment saint" was utterly unique and indispensable.
