About this deal

On 22 December 1940, the brewery water tanks were hit by bombs during the Manchester Blitz, and the brewery had to be closed down for several months, with production moved temporarily to the nearby Hydes Brewery. I suspect that wider economic forces are playing a big part here – the 20 years from the 1973 date of the book saw three big recessions that struck at Boddies’ heartlands.

This is a subject that holds great interest for me, as I "discovered" Boddingtons soon after moving to Lancaster in 1973, as it was on the bar in my college at Lancaster Uni, and in a few pubs in the area. org/wiki/Ewart_Agnew_Boddington which quotes the Times of 11 November 1977 ("Boddingtons wants a penny on a pint as it strives to brew enough ale") "In 1977, Boddingtons increased its beer sales by 24%, despite national beer sales stagnating", Might be interesting for someone with access to newspaper archives to have a dig around some of the references in that article.

However the apparent attenuation doesn't seem to change much which maybe points to process changes that did bugger it up? v=1700935404","width":500},{"alt":null,"id":32234620453177,"position":2,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":1. Amber with a fat coat of white head Pretty watery with a touch of cardboard as well as honey and a little stone fruit. There has been renewed interest in the Boddington’s cask-conditioned bitter that was produced in the 1960s to the 1980s.

Whitbread acquired Boddingtons in 1989, and gave the bitter nationwide distribution and an increased marketing budget. Manchester and the North of England were now fashionable in the public consciousness and rejuvenated from industrial slump. The brand's creaminess was emphasised through items such as face cream, ice cream, sun cream and whipped cream. v=1650102900","width":600},{"alt":"Birra Moretti 8 Litre Blade Keg - Keg","id":20440673648691,"position":2,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":1.
