About this deal

As for the art work, young Agatha is the most homely looking child I’ve ever seen, and I wish the art had been a little more enjoyable. Inspired by their accounts of the Middle East, she cancelled a planned trip to the West Indies and booked a ticket on the Orient Express, realising a lifelong ambition to travel on the luxury train. Katherine Woolley tasked Max with showing Agatha the historic sites and each found the other's company relaxing. Both Marple and Miller "always expected the worst of everyone and everything, and were, with almost frightening accuracy, usually proved right". RLJE) acquired Acorn Media UK, renamed it Acorn Media Enterprises, and incorporated it as the RLJE UK development arm.

At some point during the war years, she also penned the last Poirot and Miss Marple novels to be published – Curtain and Sleeping Murder respectively. In 2013, the Christie family supported the release of a new Poirot story, The Monogram Murders, written by British author Sophie Hannah. Christie's obituary in The Times notes that "she never cared much for the cinema, or for wireless and television. Since 2020, reissues of Christie's Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot novels by HarperCollins have removed "passages containing descriptions, insults or references to ethnicity".The 1950s was a busy decade for Agatha’s play-writing, and she struck up a fruitful new relationship with theatre producer Peter Saunders. It was in South Africa that Agatha discovered her love of surfing, and couldn’t wait to take to the water again when they reached Honolulu – where she became the first European woman to surf standing up. The two winters and one summer that I spent in Paris were some of the happiest days I have ever known. Two weeks after Boehmer's death, Mary's sister Margaret West married widowed dry goods merchant Nathaniel Frary Miller, a US citizen.

In 1946, Christie said of herself: "My chief dislikes are crowds, loud noises, gramophones and cinemas. Mathew Prichard also holds the copyright to some of his grandmother's later literary works including The Mousetrap. Shortly after her eleventh birthday however, Agatha’s world was turned upside down by the sudden death of her father. There's a few nods to her works, though by and large it could be any spirited Victorian girl who loves mysteries and always speaks her mind. Agatha’s creative output continued apace, as she found herself able to escape from the horrors of the real world into her writing. In 1922, the Christies joined an around-the-world promotional tour for the British Empire Exhibition, led by Major Ernest Belcher. Clara, who was an excellent storyteller, did not want Agatha to learn to read until she was eight but Agatha, bored and as the only child at home, taught herself to read by the age of five. Thompson believes Christie's occasional antipathy to her creation is overstated, and points out that "in later life she sought to protect him against misrepresentation as powerfully as if he were her own flesh and blood". Encyclopaedia Britannica's editors oversee subject areas in which they have extensive knowledge, whether from years of experience gained by working on that content or via study for an advanced degree.
