The bourbon though apparently wasn't named Wild Turkey until 1940 when a distillery executive shared his bourbon with friends on an annual hunting trip. I like how closely this hews to the Wild Turkey profile on the nose, though the palate mostly underdelivers, which I will attribute to the dilution down to 86 proof (43% ABV). Finish A pinch of black pepper appears on the finish, followed by an underlying buttery note and lingering drying oak. This is also why I think we haven’t seen many variants of the Longbranch brand launch since this initial product showed up on the scene.

Having not tasted the original, unaltered bottle of Longbranch, it’s hard for me to say whether the experiment was a success.Though countless modern variations have popped up in the centuries since, the classic Old Fashioned is understood as a simple combination of whiskey (usually bourbon or rye), s. Lately, though, Wild Turkey has been trying to buck that reputation and compete with the (other) big names in bourbon by releasing special edition this and distiller’s own that, which initially struck me as a bit of a betrayal of the brand. Crafted to reflect McConaughey’s roots in both Kentucky and Texas, the name Longbranch is a tribute to family trees and welcoming gestures. Longbranch is a collaboration of Wild Turkey creative director Matthew McConaughey and master distiller Eddie Russell.

Situated in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, the Wild Turkey Distillery is an exceptional example for a Whiskey distillery that follows its own vision of how Bourbon has to be: characterful, very aromatic and last but not least full of power! I also don’t like to completely kill beloved bottles like this, so I had to have a backup bottle to tag David in. Made using Wild Turkey bourbon aged for eight years, Longbranch is a collaboration between Wild Turkey’s Master Distiller Eddie Russell and the brand’s Creative Director, award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey. Flavours of Caramel, Pear, and hints of Citrus round out the palate with a Subtle, Smokey Finish it is Buttery Smooth with notes of gentle Pepper and Toasted Oak.

Wild Turkey Longbranch is a rare, small-batch Kentucky Straight bourbon refined with Texas Mesquite and oak charcoals. Longbranch thus connects the two states of Kentucky and Texas with Hollywood through the traditional brand Wild Turkey. For the charcoal filtration, not only American white oak but also wood from the Texas sweet pod tree was used.

This one, is a worthy alternative for a change from my usual and my wife also enjoys it as she can drink it with a coke or neat.Wild Turkey Longbranch was created in collaboration with brand ambassador and film star Matthew McConaughey. Made with a blend of eight year old Wild Turkey, this whiskey gets its smooth flavour thanks to using Texas mesquite and American white oak in the filtering process.

Born and raised in Chicago Matt spent the last decade hunting the unattainable only to find the beauty in the everyday affordable Bourbons you can readily find.There’s some astringency as the main flavor marker at the midpalate, but overall this remains watery and weak. I was bought a bottle of this yesterday for my birthday (01/08/20), from my wife who knows I enjoy a good Bourbon. I like the fact it has a lingering dry taste on the mouth and a little bit of a burnt caramel flavour.
