I use an Ansmann Energy XC3000 battery test to measure actual performance. First, I measure the voltage of the batteries when fully charged. The initial voltage of the GP ReCyko Pro 2000mAh AA was 1.4V, which is pushing what you’d expect from an alkaline battery. It used to be that rechargeable batteries suffered from high battery drain, losing a considerable amount of power while sat idle, which made them unsuitable for many jobs. For example, in remote controls, rechargeable batteries would run out of power at more regular intervals than standard disposable batteries, making them an annoying choice. However, improvements in technology now mean that there are rechargeables that can compete with alkaline models for longevity.

The truth is rechargeable batteries are a better option all-round. Today we charge our phones, toothbrushes, computers and even cars. We are well versed in recharging all manner of electronic devices, yet we still seem to neglect one area – our batteries.
If you use the GP ReCyko 2600mAh AA in low-drain devices, such as remote controls, the natural capacity loss will mean that you’ll end up charging these more often than some rival batteries. What that means is that these units are best used relatively fresh in demanding items. Performance

If the device is not going to be used for a long period of time, we recommend removing all used batteries from the electrical device and always replace used batteries with new batteries of the same size and type. Make sure to switch off the device after the batteries are exhausted or find power down during use and replace them with new rechargeable ones.
Turn off all components that are not needed and keep the camera in standby or sleep mode rather than turning the camera on and off periodically. With a starting voltage of 1.4V, these batteries were above the lower limit of 1.2V for rechargeable batteries. Capacity is decent. Rated at 2000mAh, we found that these batteries managed an initial result of 2218mAh, and that didn’t change over the full 50 cycles that we put the batteries through. That’s enough power to take on the most powerful jobs, although if you really need more power, the Ansmann Digital AA HR6 2850mAh may be better. That said, the batteries are rated to last for only up to 300 charge cycles, which is 100 fewer than the Duracell Rechargeable AA 2500mAh batteries and 400 cycles shorter than the GP ReCyko Charge 10 batteries (assuming the slow-charging method is used). No only that, but these batteries are designed to hold their charge: up to 70% after five years. This is excellent news, meaning you can charge these batteries so that they’re ready to go and use them at your leisure. In addition, they work well in low-discharge devices, such as remote controls: you should see similar battery life here as you do with non-rechargeable batteries.Fact: 61% of UK consumers have a battery charger at home that can be used with these new generation rechargeable batteries.
