About this deal

Looking for the best vodka for a Martini or the best addition to a Bloody Mary? Simply grab the additional ingredients, hunt down the perfect glass, and read on for the best vodka to pair it with. Very gentle on the nose, Grey Goose shows an almost ephemeral note of medicinality, the only hint that it’s actually a high-proof vodka and not something more innocuous, like coconut water. Slight notes of sesame oil, almond, and a hint of vanilla give it a light sweetness, again evoking something you might drink at the spa instead of the bar. The body is creamy and gentle, again showing on the palate a modest vanilla note and some spun sugar, making for an iconic New World experience that is often copied today. The gentle sweetness, marshmallow-like at times, really rounds out on the tongue, eliminating any sense of boozy sharpness or heat. The finish is equally clean and simple, lightly sweet with no bit whatsoever. Proof: Another term for measuring the alcoholic content of a beverage. The proof is double the alcohol by volume (ABV) measurement. Here's why you may want to consider cognac instead of brandy for vanilla extract: If you are conducting experiments on the impact of vanilla beans in different spirits, then you want to hold the spirit constant. A Hennessy cognac from grapes only grown in the Cognac region of France and approved by Hennessy's rigorous tasting standards will provide you a consistent, standard spirit base. Try one with Tahiti beans and one with Mexican beans and you will clearly note the difference in the final extract based solely on the beans. We like white rum for two reasons: 1) It is sugar-based which means you will get a sweeter extract, and 2) It is mostly tasteless, which means that after a year of extraction, you will primarily just taste the vanilla beans. This makes white rum a great kind of alcohol to use when experimenting with different beans. Try a white rum with a Tongan vanilla bean vs. a white rum with a Madagascar vanilla bean and you will smell and taste the dramatic difference between those beans almost immediately. As such, white rum's applications are almost universal. A Mexican vanilla extract made in a white rum can be used in almost any dessert, making this our favorite choice. Captain Morgan white rum specifically is a little less strong and more subtle, which results in a creamy and smooth extract.

This top-shelf vodka is renowned for being one of the smoothest on the market, and it’s a joy to sip it neat. Belvedere, originating from Poland, is produced at the Polmos Zyrardow distillery (known as the birthplace of all vodka) using Dankowskie Gold Rye. The high starch content of this rye yields a velvety soft level to the vodka, confirming its spot at the top. This is one of those instances where price and final quality did not match up. Four Roses is a nice bourbon and a little more expensive than Maker's Mark. But something about its bold spice and honey tone made it a difficult marriage with vanilla beans. The final taste was too complicated and hard to find an application for. While it wasn't the worst bourbon extract that we ever tried, it certainly didn't meet its mark in our experiment. Unlike other vodkas, Grey Goose is only distilled once. Best served neat, Grey Goose is one of the original ultra-premium vodkas on the market and offers a delightfully crisp taste with a smooth finish. It’s one of the creamiest vodkas available, with a clear, grainy nose and a peppery palate with a hint of star anise. While it might not be everyone’s first choice for a sipper, some of the best-tasting vodkas on the market are designed to be enjoyed in a cold glass with nothing more than an ice cube to bring out the varied flavor profiles. ABV: Alcohol By Volume — the percentage of ethanol in a beverage. The average vodka alcohol percentage is 40%.

Grey Goose Vanilla Vodka Details

Vodka has kept its title as one of the most popular spirits in the world for many years, which means there are hundreds of different brands to choose from. However, while there are more brands to sample than we could ever reasonably sip, there is a handful that is known for being consistently excellent. Or, if you’d rather read up on the spirit first, explore our buyer’s guide to drinking vodka including how it’s madeand the different types available, our tips on how to drink vodka, and the terms to know when buying vodka. 1. Absolut: Overall best vodka

While I generally gravitate to vodkas with more pungency and cleansing astringency, it’s easy to see why people continue to love Grey Goose. It is pleasant and perfectly innocuous — and most of all, it never feels like booze… at least until that third vodka-soda, amirite? Neutral spirit: A term for a spirit that’s without distinctive character, aroma, taste, or color. While most vodkas might be regarded as neutral, they still aren’t technically neutral spirits. Its low price point combined with ever-so-slight herbal notes makes it an excellent all-rounder, no matter the occasion. The vodka, at 95.6 percent, is then diluted to around 50% with purified or spring water before being distilled again, at which point infusions can be added. The spirit is finished in the pot before common additives like honey or sugar are added. Before the final step, every bottle of vodka goes through a particle filter before it’s chilled and sold. What are the different types of vodka? Belvedere is the result of 600 years of Polish vodka-making tradition. The brand, owned by LVMH, is named after Belweder, the Polish presidential palace in Warsaw, and is produced in one of the world’s longest-continuously operating Polish distilleries. The vodka brand maintains strict production guidelines to keep its consistently premium taste, ensuring that each step of the process occurs on Polish soil, using locally-sourced raw ingredients. It’s also the only vodka brand to be awarded the Positive Luxury Butterfly Mark, which recognizes its commitment to quality craftsmanship and environmental responsibility. AbsolutUnlike many vodkas on the market (we’re looking at you, Smirnoff), Absolut contains no added sugar. This, combined with its premium taste and determination to use only the highest quality ingredients, positions the brand as our best overall vodka in the world. While this is not a top-shelf vodka, it will provide a wonderful final product that you will be proud of. Also a winter wheat vodka like Grey Goose, but it originates from Sweden. Svedka will provide a bold vanilla extract taste that becomes smooth and creamy with time. These extracts can be used with virtually any dessert or other food applications. The price is a little less than Grey Goose and the result is almost identical. In the same way that all bourbons are whiskeys but not all whiskey is bourbon, all cognacs are brandies but not all brandies are cognac. Where whiskeys are derived from ryes, corn, barley, etc., cognacs and brandies are derived from grapes and fruits, so they are naturally much sweeter than bourbons and whiskeys. Cognacs are made only from grapes grown in the Cognac region of France, whereas brandies are made from grapes and even other fruits (like apples) from anywhere around the world. Mix it into a highball glass with tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, ice, and any other spices and flavorings to complement the flavors before stirring and garnishing with a celery stalk.
