We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.

With the rather apt names of Melephant Brooks ( Mel Brooks), Chairol Burnett (Carol Burnett), Carl Reineroceros (Carl Reiner), and Bitey White (Betty White), these early development toys are a relic of Bonnie’s time as a baby. Wisened by their years, they help clue Woody into the realization that maybe he’s just not as popular a toy as he used to be.

Whether they be new protagonists and/or antagonists, humorous comic relief characters or a set of cameos from comedy royalty, there’s quite a few new friends to catch up with in Toy Story 4’s adventure on that great road trip that awaits the toys.
