About this deal

If your iPhone is connected to both a MagSafe Charger and power via a Lightning port, your iPhone will charge via the Lightning connector.

This is ideal for iPhone owners who like to use their phone while it's charging and don't mind paying a premium price. It’s as minimalist a design as you’d expect from Apple–it looks a lot like the Apple Watch Charger. During our testing, a completely depleted iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro took an hour to charge up to 50% using the MagSafe charging, while the same test on a 7.5W Qi pad from Mophie took well over an hour. So while it’s not the most sophisticated charging solution, it is definitely one of the fastest solutions when it comes to iPhones. It’s 15.4cm (6in) high, 15.9cm (6.3in) deep and 8.5cm (3.4in) wide. In comparison, the Belkin 3-in-1 is 13.5cm wide. For an even smaller footprint, consider the OtterBox 3-in-1 Charging Station, reviewed below. The Watch charging part is separate but plugs in once the stand is unfolded. When folded it can be used as a wireless charging pad. The iPhone can be set in either landscape or portrait orientation when the charger is doubling up as a stand.

While super-cheap charging cables should be avoided as they can be unsafe, compatible wireless charging is inherently safer due to the technology. But we’d still stay clear from something that looks too cheap. It can supply two external 4K displays at 60Hz or one 8K monitor but at 30Hz rather than 60Hz like the Caldigit TS4, so single-screen gamers should probably look elsewhere. These accessories aren't necessarily bad per se, they just have one issue or another that put them a rung below the rest. Hence, you should probably avoid them. Your MagSafe Charger is designed for faster and most efficient charging with iPhone 15 models, iPhone 14 models, iPhone 13 models, iPhone 12 models, and Apple MagSafe accessories. The Apple Watch series, including the latest Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, uses a proprietaryform of wireless charging and does not work with a MagSafe Charger. Apple would either need to switch to Qi on the next Apple Watch or make the next MagSafe Charger also compatible with the charging method used by the Apple Watch.

Several brands sell MagSafe wireless chargers nearly identical to Apple's. Here are the models we've tested and like. Note: Most don't include a power adapter, so you'll want one that's at least 20 watts (like this one).

MagSafe has a maximum speed of 15W. Comparing it to the 65W fast charging of the OnePlus 9 Pro, it is not the fastest charging solution out there, however, it is an improvement on the 7.5W Qi wireless charging.
