However Billingham has found a near perfect balance, blending Thorne’s irresistible charm, an element of humour and the day to day mundane realities of family life, with an overwhelmingly depressing set of statistics and a case which puts the lives of Thorne’s friends and colleagues at risk. But where Thorne and Tanner strive for justice, Muldoon outright relishes rape and murder and Raz is as cold-blooded as they come.In Love Like Blood I have tried to display the utmost respect for Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and for those who practice their religions peacefully. It is about "honor" killings in the Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim communities in the UK, namely members of families whose honor has been damaged by the behavior of a sister, brother, daughter. Then Amaya Shah and Kamal Azim go missing, and Tanner is certain their disappearance fits the pattern of the other killings.

The result is an intelligent and hugely entertaining thriller that treats its subject with sensitivity. Except maybe his relationship with Helen, even after a few books with her she just isn’t a character I have really liked all that much and preferred Thorne when he was a loner however I can appreciate the character development here and Thorne becoming somewhat of a family man.
