Any suggestions on which Tamiya paint might be the best option to achieve the gloss/metallic Thousand Sons look? Aquaterry wrote:I may have been using it wrong, but I use it a lot for blood, as it has a very nice, glossy look to it. Let's say your're clear coating the wing of a Phantom you will find minor "frosting" on the fuselage. All this talk about the hairy stick made me took a kit out of the loft to see if I still have my brush painting skills. Gosh, think of how many hours it would take to tape off 90% of the model that I wanted to stay silver.

I once used Tamiya's clear acrylics on a Porsche 911 rear lights (red and orange) and it worked extremely well. If you are of a mind to try it, Tamiya lacquer thinner will deliver even better results than X-20A, as it extends the drying time a little more and gives the paint more time to level. For better paint brushing results use Tamiya Paint Retarder (87114) for a smoother brushstroke free finish.

It is fantastic for working with an airbrush, and with proper dilution, it can also be used when working with a brush. I'm still learning , but does anyone else already use this stuff and if so, do you have any extra tips to "heighten the experience? The way I paint regular clear body is final color > primer (for protection and backing, they have a wide range of primer colors) and final finish with a clear. As with many other paints, it is recommended to apply it to a model surface that is dry and preferably degreased as well.

When painting with a brush, it is recommended to use those with natural bristles (for example: PREMIUM SIBERIAN KOLINSKY BRUSH – 1 , High Grade Pointed Brush Sml - DC719 or HG Flat Brush - Small ). I prefer their Game and Mecha range as they are claimed to resist handling better although I had not tested them properly yet. The Tamiya Mini X-27 Clear Red Acrylic Paints come in 10ml bottles and are water-soluble and non-toxic.Graininess with Tamiya gloss colors (and clears) is often the result of the paint not being wet enough for it to level. Since it's your first experiment with this and your using Tamiya spray cans I'd recommend their transparent red over the metallic red ,, the one that looks like metallic pink, That will be easier to get a consistent color with less light and dark areas then using strait silver or gold as a base. Now on to your candy rush, they produce a range of candy transparent color for RC, look for them in the 62-071 to 9 range.

I know people have applied multiple layers of ink to make colored metallics, but that is super time consuming and would be frustrating to do on all the little bits each model has. Now I use Klear for a number of reasons (can be brushed, cheaper, seems to dry quicker) but would have no problem in reverting to the old X-22. However, it should be pointed out that excessive use of water can significantly reduce its adhesion to the surface, and in extreme cases, lead to the drying of the paint falling off the model. What I do since I'm using lacquer clearcoat over it is mix it in my clear and then it won't have that reaction,, usually, at least not yet for me. If you edit the title of your thread and ask for help getting a gloss finish on cars, you might catch there attention.
